Day trip. Collected at 8am. Crossed over the Atlas Mountains through what used to be the route beaten by the caravans. Road went up to 2260 metres through Berber villages. Visited the former pasha's kasbah at Teloeut. Then on to Ait Ben Haddou, the 11th century fortress where Gladiator was filmed. Long day in the car and very tiring but good to see the scenery. Breakfast in the courtyard as it was a cloudy morning on the roof terrace. Visited the Museum of Photography, the Madrassa, the Marrakech Museum. Interspersed with lunch, mint teas and wandering the souks. Nothing purchased. In the evening we went into the new town for a meal at a restaurant called L'Ibzar. Lovely food. Arrived at hotel at about 10am following early flight from Stansted. Greeted with mint tea and introduction to Marrakech from Mandy the Canadian manager. Went for a walk to get our bearings. Weather quite cool compared to what we expected. There was a lot of rain here last night. Had an early lunch in Cafe d'epices. Watched a fight break out in the market between to Muslim women.
