Arrived in Flores in the late afternoon.Stayed at a great place - Los Amigos.Like a lot of places in central America, it was set in a massive courtyard, with lots of plants around, felt like a jungle house, lots of hammocks and comfy sofas.. Our room was like a tree house. Pretty much in the open. Was actually the porch to another room where a couple of Swedes were staying.Went out to watch the sunset on the river in Flores.. Was a beautiful, evening.Stayed in to eat, as the next morning, were waking up early to go to the Tikal Mayan ruins for sunrise.Pretty exhausting getting ready in the morning, trying not to disturb anyone.. Journey to Tikal took around an hour and a half away.Walking through the jungle at night was really cool.At one point you could see the outline of one of the temples poking out above the tree line.Seemed like a scene straight out of a Lara Croft/Indiana Jones movie. We finally arrived at TempleIV,and then climbed the steep stairs of the 64 metre high temple. There we sat in complete silence waiting for sunrise and listened to the sounds of the jungle as it came to life.. Was a pretty Zen moment. So peaceful… as it started to get light suddenly the sound of howler monkeys and birds filled the air. Unfortunately the cloud and mist obscurred the view of the temples hidden in the jungle, but it didn't make the moment any less magical. The next few hours we walked around with our local guide - Caesar who talked to us about the life of the Mayans, and showed us the local wildlife which included Toucans, Triantulars, andmonkeys. Also saw a really strange type of cat, coloured really brightly, but don't know what it was.Temples were really impressive, but was absolutely exhausted after walking around for a few hours.Eva was keen to hang around for Sunset, but by 11am, think we were happy to go back to Flores.Bumped into thetwo Swedes whose porch we were staying in at Los Amigos - Hannah and "Fanny".. Wanted to laugh and make a joke, but just found out they got robbed at gunpoint the day before on the way to Flores from Guatemala city, so thought it was best to keep quiet and be polite. Spent the afternoon swimming in the local lake - was a lot warmer than the mountainLakeAtitlan.Sat on the small jetty with a small group of other travellers and watched the sunset set again. It was a beautiful sunset, wish I had my camera.Town looked dead in the evening, so stayed in the hostel.I was so exhausted, so fell asleep in a hammock and missed dinner. Shock horror!!Next morning we took an early bus to Belize saying goodbye to Eva.
Spent a few hours walking around. Don't think I could have climbed one more of the temples.. They were pretty steep!!!.
Met two Swedish girls, Hannah and Fanny (LOL), who just got robbed at gunpoint a coupe of days ago on the same bus at I took, so just goes to show it isn't aass safe as i think!!.
Back at home now, and think i'm gonna go for a swim in the lake to cool dlown!!
