12th & 13th
We survived our first monsoon rain downpour. It was rain like I have never ever ever seen!! It was an hour of solid bucket loads of rain, we were in the taxi and people were pulling over on their motorbikes, because the rain was about 3 inches off the ground- in 45 minutes! That's A LOT! It was not ideal that we were trying to get up such a steep hill at the time- it lead to a few skids and wheel spins!! We were one of the few who made it up the hill, many cars and buses couldn't make it up!
However, in less than an hour all of the rain had cleared, the sun had dried it all up and banished all evidence of such a downpour. The new hotel we are in is pleasant! It's very modern, clean and colorful! The back over looks phukets big buddah! We've been so lucky with our accommodation (minus Bangkok of course). The first day in chalong we had a lot of sorting out to do, resulting to a very stressed cherry! I FaceTimed home for the first time, seeing Monty and Kiki (and mum and dad obviously) made me miss home a lot!! But we didn't dwell because while all of you lot in the UK are on snow watch, we are in the most blissful heat!
We spent the day exploring our area, finding good restaurants, going to the coast and of course sunbathing! We discovered that as you walk around the Thais all think you need a taxi, so people shout at you from all angles and start doing a universal taxi driving signal (pretending to drive the car) they found it hard to believe we just wanted to walk!!
We found the best pizzeria, we had the BIGGEST pizzas ever- they were delicious! We definitely struggled to eat the regular sized pizza which would have happily fed about 3 people!
On the 13th we did quite similar things.. Did a bit of walking, more Thai people did their funny universal arm wiggle while shouting "taxi" or "tuk tuk" we also found an amazing Thai restaurant- amazing food, but shoddy service!! We also went back to our youthful days and drank Bacardi breezers! So refreshing just what you want after a long day in the sun!
