Originally I referred to this trip as Cairo to Capetown because that title captured the essential travel idea. However, this trip is a celebration of the World Cup in South Africa 2010, so Lorrie Fair, a traveling companion and soccer player par excellence, came up with the catchier name of "Kickabout Africa 2010." We plan to do soccer clinics along our route and, with the help of sponsors, deliver balls, cones and vests to the kids along the way. I'm also a medical doctor, so if time permits, I should be able to help out in a clinic here and there along our path to South Africa. We're most likely starting from Osnabruck, Germany, where Joe Enochs, an American who played pro soccer in Germany for years, lives. We'll be his guest while we get the vehicle ready. As we go we'll blog our way down the continent.
