Bangkok seems a distant memory!!!! we are now official travellers of the normal kind (none of that 4* luxury) bartering for cheaper prices, showering in cold showers and sleeping on cardboard matresses infested by bugs.
We left Bangkok and its stench last monday (after sleeping through the time we were due to check out at our 4* hotel). We caught the overnight bus down to suratthani followed by a 3 hour boat journey to koh phangan island meeting some sweedish girls on the journey. in koh phangan we stayed in a lovely hut overlooking the beach/sea. On wednesday morning we hired mopeds-costing a minor 3 pound a day :) despite the fact the rain refused to stop, we managed to drive around alot of the island, where there were some great sights including waterfalls!! with exploring energy we climbed through rocks and boulders, and flowing rapids of water to reach beautiful lagoons and gorges. ha ha yet we dropped geography. Andy was our friend for this day and we came to be friends with him for our stay in koh phangan.
That night we ventured into the town of haad rin where the apparent lively bars are in koh phangan...we ended up at a pool party meeting some girls and guys. one girl from austrailia and the other from holland. these guys we met were gay however and annoying, and insisted i quote 'just take ur top off' to get us in the pool :o. we got back at 6:00am from this party...and it was fun. the next day went fine also, as we chilled in a bar watching movies with a pint and playing cards with another new friend rachel. the rest of the week went from bad to worse for mr hoskins. firstly marti woke up friday morning feeling terribly unwell and missed out on a breakfast meeting and day out with rachel and andy, although matthew said he would stay with marti, marti felt it would only bore me so i tried 2 have fun, but wasnt the same...although getting drunk that night. once we thought marti was on recovery he was ploughed into by 3 young girls all on the same moped into the back of marti like idiots. lucky he realised from their screaming and jumped off scraping his toe, yet leaving him with a 1500 baht bill for a scratch on the moped (roughly 25 pounds).
we left koh phangan after 5 nights to head for Krabi by ferry and bus. we departed sunday morning and arrived sunday afternoon..with marti still unwell (slowly recovering) We have found krabi to be much busier and tourist filled with familys aswell as backpackers, we came accross two londoners we had met briefly on the boat to koh phangan. our night ended with these two watching some footy and getting merry. . Monday was a beach day and a sunny day..the best for us yet!!! further down the beach were a pack of monkeys within the rocks. After familiarising with the town and beach, we showered in our worst accomodation yet and headed to town again arranging to see the londoners dave and jonny on their last night in Krabi.
Tuesday in Krabi saw the return of a fully restored marti!!! yay, and after booking the day before, at 8:00am the next day we were kiyaking between the lagoons, caves and water filled forests (formally the homes of crocodiles :s and again more monkeys to feed. That night we ventured into town for food and a night at the luna beach bar which was pretty cool.
Now...considering all the bad things which had happened to marti, matthew should have been more careful to respect his own misfortune. On this night, someone had came into our hut took my shorts with my wallet in..took the 1000 baht in my wallet and thankfully left my wallet in my shorts on our balcony. this is roughly 20 pounds...but 20 pounds i could do with!!! on this day however, matthew didnt allow the thief to put me down and we went as planned to go on our booked boat trip to four different dreamy islands, where the sand was white, and sea was crystal clear. We endevoured in snorkling and swam with some very exotic fishes and sea creatures which were all around us and in numbers of thousands. a superb day out! oh and a cave with a very humourus shrine...devoted to the penis???... and here we are on wednesday night ready to depart for the ledgendary phi phi island (as seen in the motion picture 'The beach') although i would like to fill you all in with the little anticdots and classic matt and marti laughing moments...i feel there is not enough time, and we gota save some stuff to tell for our return! xxx
