Our second week in Byron Bay definately didnt live up to our first week in Byron Bay. There were various reasons for this. However there was a reason we stayed longer.
We arrived in our Hostel at YHA ta an all male dorm. In the first night we met a couple of lads, and got to know them vaguely. Me and mart decided to save money and not go out as much for our second week. Therefore there isnt as much to tell, and in our first two nights we basically chilled-whatched films and made food. At this point, we saw the beggining of the everlasting headache that hit me. This headache doesnt disappear until Sydney. I also felt sick for a few days (So it wasnt just a headache!)
We made a trip to the cinema to whatch the Golden Compass. All this in effort to stop us spending more money on alcohol. Soon after a storm moved over Byron Bay. The storm was expected, and was moving through various parts of Oz. The rain actually didnt stop- not even for a pause. We consumed many milkshakes around this time, and we both invested a little bit of doey on some new shorts. Within a couple of nights our new room mates arrived and as we got to know them, we became friends with a couple of other lads in the dorm.Firstly there was strange, funny weed lover Mike-from L.A. who was probably forty or so. The other two that arrived were from merry old England, Andy and his mate. From around the corner we got to know Brad and Lloyd of Bournemouth. One of them (Brad i think) had half of one arm missing...Im not sure why thats important but yeah?
My headache still remaining, and feeling very rotten; i was forced to lay down most of the time. One night we both couldnt stand the boredom of laying around, so we looked at going to 'The Beach Hotel Bar'. Very busy, very cool- whilst its downside was closing at 12, its upside was live music....Oh and Alex was there! obviously we stayed. Watching the bands play, having beers. An enjoyable night... until once more we found our beds.
The rain still wasnt giving way...until, a ray of sunlight could be seen coming through the hostel window. Marti headed straight for the Beach as I lay victim to my illness in bed...only able to look on at the sunshine. Marti and I planned a day of body boarding some time before, so marti had taken a board to the beach with him. A couple hours later, and several painkillers, I found marti at the beach. We both took turns to body board from then, and experienced body boarding at Byron Bays wicked waves.
We promised ourselves one more night at the legendary Cheeky Monkeys. Andy also decided on abit of Çheekys'. When we came accross Andy in the club, we realised how generious drunk people can sometimes be. Andy saved us some vital money by buying us driink after drink- once again we ended up drunk terrrors, and much of that night lays in the deepest lost part of my memory. I do remember my headache annoying me very much so in the morning though.
Our remaining time, again was chilling. One night we were audience to a night of fights. the lads from Bournemouth came back to the dorm, drunk, battered to the max, and very angry. Some locals had beaten them up, and to their anger, some people they were with turned on them also. The arguments carried on through the night, entering our room, back out again, head butting. Mike felt the need to get involved, it was like watching a panto! Next morning, Lloyd woke up with a face like the elephant man, and we looked forward to our next adventure on the Oz Bus and Sydney. Our last night we saw Andy come back paraletic drunk and puking all over his bed (smelling much like cider!)..a pleasant goodbye ay.
The morning of departure fatty, oh i mean marti indulged in a subway for breakfast, and i had paracetamols. Waiting at the transit centre, we reflected on our stay at Byron, and was sad to leave such a wicked place...dream land for parties...surfing and travellers. Loved it Loved it Loved it.
Although the second week wasnt exilerating as the first, their was no mistaking how good Byron Bay was, and how we will never forget our stay!
Love Love Love to all (sorry Ant its gotta be done ya beast) xxx
