Our Antarctic Adventure begins!
It was another early start today, with a 4am wake up call so we could be at the airport by 6.50am. We got there very early, but managed to easily waste the time by getting breakfast and doing some last minute Facebook posts.
I'm not going to go into much detail about the flight, except for a couple of things. I got a window seat, and the route we took meant I watched as we flew over the Dandenongs (didn't find my house though!) then as we left the last bit of Australian land for the Tasman Sea and finally got a birds eye view of the NZ alps along the west coast, the snow-capped peaks jutting out of the clouds (absolutely stunning!). The best bit of the whole flight though was the safety video, which had been done in The Lord of the Rings style. People were dressed as elves, hobbits, the metal man that Miranda Otto kills in the third (?) movie and even Gollum made an appearance. Not sure if it would be on youtube, but check it out, it's worth a look!
We got to Christchurch just after 2.30pm (we're 2 hours ahead here) and most of the afternoon has been pretty lazy except for a walk down to the local Westfield shopping centre for groceries. The only other thing I've really noticed here has been ads for the next season of Offspring, where Nina is having a baby. Now, I don't watch this show at home, but even I know what happened at the end of that season. I kind of feel like yelling out "spoiler alert!" Maybe that's the tiredness talking... I can hope that's the case anyway!
