My Family Travels
Today was our full day in San Antonio. We took the morning quite slow and let our little guy take his first nap before we started our plans. First we walked down to the Alamo to tour around since it was open. The line to get into the shrine seemed pretty long, but it really wasn't too bad. I know Paul enjoyed reading all the information on the displays, but I was making sure that Silas was happy. Silas loved looking around at all the people and things in the room. We weren't allowed to take pictures in the shrine. After that we wandered the garden and the barracks. Once we were done at the Alamo it was time for lunch. We met up with some friends that were in San Antonio for a reunion. How crazy is that? We went to a place called County Line BBQ on the Riverwalk. We had some really yummy BBQ and had great conversation with friends. They got seats inside the restaurant, which was perfect because it was in the upper 80s and sunny outside. When lunch was over we walked back to the hotel for a second nap. But Silas decided to fall asleep on the way to the hotel. We were totally ok with that! I was able to push the back of the stroller down so that he could lay while he slept instead of sitting up. After Silas woke up we drove down to the San Antonio Missions Historical Park. In my research for this trip I read that these were more impressive than the Alamo. I would agree that they were more beautiful, but there was less history linked to them. So I'm glad we did both. We walked around 2 of the 4 missions (because it was hot, we only had 90 minutes til they closed, and we didn't bring the stroller). The first was San Jose mission. This is where the Visitors Center is. I got my National Park stamps there. I'm so bummed that I forgot to buy myself a magnet there. Oh well. Maybe I can get Jeremy to buy me one when he goes down sometime. The mission was so interesting to walk around. It was fun to imagine a whole busy town living in this area. The mission church itself was decorated with lots of flowers for Easter. We wandered around for a while and then decided to move on to the other mission. It was a short drive to Mission Concepcion. A few of the rooms had original paint still on the walls! This mission church was also beautified for Easter. We didn't spend as much time here because we were both getting pretty tired from our day of walking out in the heat. So we headed back to the hotel. I stayed there for the night while Silas slept. Paul went out to take some pictures of the Alamo lit up. He was also able to meet up with another friend for drinks. What a great full day in San Antonio.
