My Family Travels
More school. Definitely getting a handle on understanding. I just never know what to say! But Max had said that verbalization is the last part of learning a language. Through school we have met some really nice people from many different countries. It was such a great opportunity to meet some really nice people from all over.
Today was beach day! We were all so excited to go to the Mediterranean Ocean, I mean Sea! We kept accidentally saying Ocean. I think it's because in the States you go to a lake or ocean. But first we took a long Metro and train ride to get to Ostia Antica. This was the old port of where the Tiber River met the Sea. Our guide was very nice and seemed to understand our group. Some of us wanted to listen and some didn't, which she was fine with. The ruins were very nice, although it all seemed the same. There were some mosaics still left intact. That was amazing to see. It was such a hot day that we all started getting a little goofy. Jacob started "interpreting" the ruins for us. All I know is that halfway through the Romans had an overpopulation of unicorns! Our guide was extremely entertained by Jacob and his ideas. So were we. Thankfully the tour didn't last too long. Then it was on to the beach! So Enzo's son was supposed to be our guide to the beach. Though, I think I could have gotten us there quicker. There was no way he was older than me. I think he asked 4 people for directions. And by this time we were all hot, cranky, and just really wanting to go to the beach! Finally we saw the sea, but we weren't at the beach yet. So we stopped to get some food. Jeremy and I got some sandwiches and iced tea. It was probably pretty gross, but I was so hungry that it tasted pretty good. Max thankfully asked how to get to the beach. It was only a short walk away to the public beach. There was so much of the shore that was privatized. Restaurants owned the land and people had to pay to use it. When we got to the public beach we were all so excited! We plunked down our stuff and ran for the sea! Actually it was pretty gross. I left to go back to the towel pretty quickly while the rest stayed to swim. I had a great time people watching on this beach. There were a lot of people selling items: cold drinks, food, art, jewelry, and swimsuits! Also there were a lot of men in speedos. Yuk, yuk, yuk! When the others came back, they all commented on how salty the water was. I was very glad I didn't stay too long in the water. The sand seemed darker than I can remember at other beaches. Too soon it was time to leave! Max led us back to the train station. We got back there a lot quicker than going to the beach. We decided to go to supper at the restaurant close to school. We had heard some good things about this place. For appetizer we had an assortment of deep fried things. So very yummy! We all felt like pizza. I had a pizza with buffalo mozzarella and very sweet tomatoes. That was so good. For dessert I ended up getting a lemon sorbet. I love ending meals with lemon. It's so refreshing and not heavy. This meal ended up being more expensive than we wanted, but then again so was most of the meals.
