My Family Travels
San Diego has been absolutely beautiful. The weather has been a bit foggy, but still great. Here is what we did in San Diego, by the numbers.
0 - Hot air balloon rides
We were supposed to go on a balloon ride early Wednesday morning. But there were storms in the area, so our ride was cancelled. We were sad, so we went to Starbucks to drink coffee (Michelle) and to take a nap (Paul).
1 - lighthouse at Cabrillo National Monument
We drove through a military base to get to this national monument. The view would have been spectacular, if the fog had lifted. We did love walking around this small park to see the city skyline and the sea. There was a lighthouse to walk through, as well as a military display about preparing for an attack during WWII. I loved watching the video about the explorer Cabrillo who was the first European to explore California.
2 - feet in the sand at the Hotel del Coronado
We were told to visit this hotel. This place was so beautiful. Someday I hope to stay there, even for one night. We walked around the grounds and even walked on the white sand beach. We took some of my favorite pictures of San Diego among the white and red roofed buildings. Nothing too exciting happened here. It was just a nice relaxing walk around a place for us to dream about.
3 - levels on the USS Midway
We spent many hours on this airline carrier. Paul loves history, so it was so fun to see him so excited about this. We received free headset audio tours. It was great to be able to hear some facts about what we were exploring. We also took a tour of the bridge (that is the control tower of the ship) and listened to a docent speak about how planes were catapulted off. Very interesting.
4 - fish tacos
I was totally craving fish tacos, since we were in southern California. So we went to Tin Fish. Yum!
5 - miles we walked
Probably not. But my hip is telling me that we had done a lot of walking. Paul is very understanding. We will do a bunch of walking, but will stop if I need to. Thankfully I didn't plan too much in a day for us to do. Lots of time to take it easy. We are on our honeymoon, not a crazy must-do-everything trip.
6 - total score of the Padres/Giants game
We loved walking around Petco Park in the perfect baseball weather off the bay. The stadium is built beautifully. The walls were a gorgeous stone (sandstone perhaps?). The one downside to such a beautiful park is that you can't walk around the park and still watch the game. There was no way to watch the game and walk on any level, as we do at other stadiums. Still a nice stadium.
