Once again I was up early this morning! 6 o'clock my two alarms went off and I was off out of my room! After a quick breakfast and coffee I was on my tour bus up to Cape Trib. That's when I started to realise what I let myself in for. The tour guide asked the people who are staying a night to raise their hands and then as 2 of us 15 did, he said, "right, those on the day trip, see these two with their hands up... No point making friends with them because they are spending a night in a lawless wilderness which happens to be the habitat of the most dangerous species on the planet" - I'm not just spending one night, I'm spending two!! Fantastic!
We drove up the coast away from Cairns and saw some really nice views of the beaches. We then hopped off and did a bit of a rainforest walk before getting back on the bus to head up the coast some more. The next time we got off we were at a river cruise. Before we set off we tried some lovely Dantree Tea and had a cheeky biscuit. The boat ran along a beautiful river and a guid showed us some amazing wildlife. Plants, Birds and Crocs! All very exciting and really interesting too. Our bus met us down stream and we then headed north once more, just before I was dropped off at Cape Trib, we saw a wild Casurary - Australia's most dangerous bird - which was exciting. It was only a young one but they are so rare, only a few Australians ever see them and we were in their habitat for 45minutes and saw one! Good way to end the trip up!
Walking to my little hut in the rainforest I was more than a little bit on edge. Huge Golden Orb spiders were hanging from their webs around the outside of my hut. Although seeing that wasn't as bad as seeing the odd empty web. The spider had to be somewhere and it was probably enjoying the warm comfort of my bed!
I booked myself onto a night walk which started at 7.30, and as there was no supermarket for miles I just sat at the bar enjoying a burger before I left.
The night walk was a really cool experience. We were guided through the worlds most biodiverse land ecosystem and shown some more amazing plants and wildlife. We saw more spiders, lizards, birds, crickets, and a my first wild snake. Just being in the rainforest at night was a really good experience and being their in the dark meant you could see a totally different array of animals.
