She's home! She's home! I just picked up my bike at AML barge. Now to change the oil, air filter, and coolant, and spend a few days washing and waxing. Just in time to get it winter storage ready but hopefully a few days of riding left. I have to say that another benefit of this ride has been that I feel even more confident riding this big beast. I have ridden off and on for quite a while but never on a bike over 750cc. I'm not a small guy so a bike with 1300cc was definitely the way to go! Unfortunately, the day before I left, I lost a side cover so I had to order cheaper chrome ones because it was way cheaper to replace both with chrome covers then try to replace the one maroon one!
Last picture of this blog! Drum roll please..........the grand total miles covered on this ride is 5837 miles from Ketchikan, AK to Corpus Christi, TX and back! That's one off the bucket list.... Now we have to start planning the next adventure "2015 - Iceland on Horseback" and maybe skydiving school? My wife says no way in hell is she jumping out of a perfectly good airplane but my younger son and I want to jump from a high flying plane!
I really didn't stop to think how many miles I would be going on this trip. I'm glad I didn't because I might have talked myself out of going and that would have been a huge mistake. I can't wait to get back out on the road again.
My older son still insists the purchase of this big bike was a mid-life crisis kind of thing but I think he is glad I did it for myself. I explained to him that it isn't about mid-life crisis, it's about kicking the kids you love out of the house and starting to live for yourself again. At this age, I have a good job with plenty of vacation and good salary that makes it so I can afford to go on adventures. Next year we follow one of my wife's bucket list items. She loves Icelandic horses and for some reason feels drawn to Iceland. Sounds like fun to me so off we will go. That blog will be put together as we go as well!
