Still in Auckland we went to an ice bar called minus 5 c, which was pretty smart, and we also went to a Divali festival (the indian christmas). We are now on the kiwi experience bus, which first took us to the Bay of Islands, at the very North tip of N.Z. Here we did a day trip to 90 mile beach where we sand boarded which was awesome, but climbing the dune in irder to board down it was very difficult (although it doesnt look that steep on the pics, it was extremely high!) We drove along the beach for 50km, which is a public highway! We have also been swimming with wild dolphins, this was a very extrodinary thing to do. The first pod of dolphins we found had young with them, so we wern't allowed to get in with them (the trip will guarantee you seeing them, but not always being able to swim with them) We hit it so lucky, one couple had been out on 3 trips and not even seen them. When we were in the water it was a race against time to keep them interested and playing with them, as they get bored quickly. The water was ice cold and gave you brain freeze even with wet suits! Under the water, as soon as you put your face in you could here them singing and squeeking, it was absolutely amazing, they were swimming right under us, there were about 18 wild bottlenose dolphins.
We left Bay of Islands, went back to Aukland for one night, then onto Mercury bay the next day for one night, and are now in Rotorua. The bus only stays one night but there is lots to do here so we are staying for about 5 days. We went to a Maori concert and Hangi on Sat 21st where we saw the Haka performed, visited an old tribal village and ate a gorgeous buffet prepared in the traditional way, by cooking it in the ground. We have also been to see some hotpools which smell like rotten eggs, as they give off sulphur gases, infact the whole town smells of rotten eggs all the time. You can see steam rising up from the drains and it stinks!
Today we are cooking spag bol, chillin and watching vids, then tomorrow we are white water rafting!!!awesome!!
