charlie's 5 months of fun
Quite a lot has happened since my last entry so il try to keep it brief.....
firstly snorkelling on the great barrier reef - that was incredible - the sea was a bit rough so the boat ride was pretty bumpy (i managed to be flung from one side of the boat to the other on one occasion!!) but we saw loads of beautiful fish and coral and also fed and stroke a sea turtle! one of the guides encouraged him to come up from the sea bed with food and he was really friendly swimming around us!
After cairns we headed to townsville, not a lot to do there so we headed onto magnetic island. Really quiet place with not a whole lot of people (apparently 2000 people live on it but i dont know where they were all hiding!!) but really pretty especially when the sun shined - the first wed seen since we arrived in Oz! We were there for 4 days - spending the days sunbathing and hiring a moke (looks like a pink barbie car with no roof - very cool!! and the perfect way to see the island). Carly and i also went horseriding which was definiatly an experience!!! my horse was called mischief and very much lived up to his name - when we were cantering he decided to go off in the opposite direction from everyone else causing me to yell obsenities and think my life was going to end that day until i got him under control again and then when we went into the sea bareback he decided he wanted to roll over causing me to hang for dear life as he bent down cos i was told he cant roll if im still on his back!! all in all it was brilliant fun!! Magnetic island was also our introduction to a lot of aussie animals in the wild including rock wallabies, koalas, wallaroos (the park kangaroos escaped and mated with the wild wallabies!) and possums!
After magnetic island we headed down to airlie beach which is really nice little place - very touristy - sort of a combination of a continental and cornish seaside town! From here we went sailing on the whitsundays! the weather wasnt perfect but we still got a decent amount of sunshine and were able to snorkel some more and sail a little bit! on the way back to port, i sat on the front and got soaked from massive waves splashing over the boat- it was a competition between me and two spaniards who could withstand it the most and unfortunately i did lose when i could no longer feel me toes!!!
Tonight we leave airlie beach and head to hervey bay for two nights beforev going on our self-drive fraser island safari for 3 days!! hopefully itl be good, i just dont want to be chased by any dingoes!!!
hope everythings good at home and you have a rainstorm soon!haha!xxx
