charlie's 5 months of fun
Ive now reached the last few days on my time in New Zealand and its been another whirlwind tour down the west coast of the south island! we've seen loads of places and had tonnes of fun and lots of early mornings!!! grrrrr - just about getting used to them! on lake mahinapua, we stayed in a pub where kiwi experience travels are the only ever guests - that night we had a fancy dress party where the theme was superheros - i went as superbarbie but we had anything from the traditional superheros to madame greenfingers (a tree which grows money), michael jackson (a superstar), superscissors, bubble girl (carly), 3 ningers.... and the list goes on...it was great fun and ive got some very funny photos (to add to my millions...)
the south island was not to be outdone in the extreme activity department......ive done horseriding (not exactly extreme (especially as i ended up getting a stick for my horse cos he refused to move!!) but an activity nonetheless)), glacier walking - very tiring to start with as we marched up the glacier but then it was just incredible as we were right in the centre of the ice!,whitewater rafting (brilliant fun and very very cold) - kinda scary in places, but not as scary as bungy jumping!! had a freefall of 2 seconds but a total fall of 43 metres!!eek! unbelieveable - such an incredible feeling, i just couldnt stop giggling!!
now we're in queenstown staying with one of my friends jon who was in france with me- ive done two days snowboarding (jon instructing)- very entertaining, and a days skiing which has been loads of fun and i have a very numb bum!!
after the previous bungy jump, i couldnt not do another so i signed up for the thrillogy! this consisted of the 43m one i did off a bridge, a 47m jump off a ledge and 134m jump into a gorge from a cablecar suspended in the middle of it! as luck would have it, the snow decided to fall in queenstown so my 47m jump was called off due to lack of visiability so i wouldnt have been able to see anything as i fell and neither would anyone else when i showed them the dvd...however....the 134m jump still went ahead on my last day in queenstown!!! i took a bus ride with some of my kiwi experience friends and headed out of queenstown to the bungy jump which was hidden out of site in the middle of nowhere! by this point, i was a total bundle of nerves and wondering why on earth i had signed my life away like this! we got harnessed up and where sent across the gorge in a tiny cable car to join the giant cable car in the middle - that was probably one of the scariest bits of the whole experience - suspended in the middle of nothing in a little tin car! anyway we reached the cable car which was glass bottomed - why? i ask you!? and waited to have our ankles tied together and get ready to jump! right up to the point of standing on the edge of the cable car, i was shaking and thinking i just couldnt do - i even went silent (would you believe it??) but as the man incharge came to the end of 3,2,1 i jumped - 8 1/2 seconds freefall - incredible!!! the feeling was ammense, making me so excited for the next jump happening in the next few hours....but as i fell the snow started to fall to hence the jump being called off! it was a real shame but probably good for my eyeballs and my mum's nerves!
And in a few days we're off to south africa for the last section of our world tour!! i definiately think il be returning to NZ though - i have had the best time and have got the most incredible scenic photos!!
will have to have a photo sess when i get home, i bet you all cant wait.....
