Wednesday 16th April...................Airlie Beach ---> Magnetic Island
Ok so now I'm onto Magnetic Island. We leave early and Papa picks us up, he is called Papa because he is the oldest, he's really sweet though, and realises we all had a bit of a heavy one so just plays us music...unfortuntely its seems we are on the party bus!! It is full of plastic looking girls, all beach blonde slim and covered in slap and they are all so loud. The two guys they are with, one of them its their birthday, so they crack open alcohol at like 11 in the morning, so much for sleeping on the bus. We get off at the service station for brekky, and Ali and I have a good b**** about them all!! haha! We order lots of egg and bacon and toast, and it goes down a treat. Then we jump on the bus and head to Townsville...where Jordon (who we met on our first bus ride from Melbourne to Sydney!). I decide to get supplies for the week here as it is cheaper than it will be on the Island. I also draw out all of the money that I have at the bank...$40 and I have $0.02 remaining!! So upsetting, now I have to break into my English money :(
We get the ferry over to Magnetic Island and then catch a bus and finally reach our backpacker resort at 2:30pm and it is amazing!! Seriously amazing...there is a huge decked bar area that overlooks the ocean, the resort is right on the beach, literally 3m from the water. There is a pool with sunbeds, and the rooms are little shacks, it is so gorgeous it honestly feels like I am on a holday resort, except everyone is the same age!! We dump our bags and head to the shop to buy some essentials for our evening meal! And its a good job I bought most of my stuff in Townsville as it was a 40min round trip to the nearest food shop!!
When we get back we decide to start cooking as stupidly the kitchen closes at 8pm and we know from experience how busy kitchens get. Ali is head chef tonight and she is cooking camping curry for us!! It was really simple, lots of veg, onion, carrot, mushrooms, and pepper, chicken and then stock and flour and curry powder mixed in!! It was really good except the bottom of the pan burnt so the sauce smelt like burn but it tasted really nice!! We spent the evening talking the world to rights, Rob getting bored after about 10mins and reading his book instead!! It was so nice to just chill out and enjoy a good meal, we have been non-stop since Fraser Island so it was greatly needed!! We headed to bed early, I was tempted to go out but decide bed seemed the most attractive offer!!
Thursday 17th April.................Magnetic Island
We have a lie in...well till like 9am...which was so nice. My only problem now that I have is that my bladder is set for a 6:15 start, so whenever I have a lie in I always have to get up around 6 to go for a bleedin wee!! And it is so annoying as I then struggle to get back to sleep!! I cream up and go and sit by the pool...it is lovely to have a pool instead of a beach for once. I lap up the rays and get chatting to Harry, one of the lads I met at Airlie Beach, we chat and sweat for most of the afternoon.
It's my turn to be chef in the evening, I cook Chicken Paprika and Rice...and it is good shizzle! Ali and Rob clearly enjoy as they lap up their seconds!! Only problem, we made enough rice to feed the resort, but decide to keep it for rice salad the next day! Yummy!! We chat for a bit, I shower and go and meet some of the girls that I met at Fraser Island, Jess and Kath, and they introduce me to Alex, Lucy and Kate. They are a great laugh, real party girls and we have a good boogie! There is a lady who is like 60 years old, no lie dancing around, and then she starts swearing because her date stands her up, and tells me never to go near boys...she was hilarious, any of the lads that came to chat to me she shooed away!! I didn't have a late one, I got my buy 1 get 1 free drink voucher, and it was good just watching all of them get legless and laughing at them!!
Friday 18th April...................Full Moon Party
Again I needed the bloody toilet in the morning, so get up at 8:30am, so much for a bloody lay in!! I decide to get onto the internet, I check out facebook and reply to a few people and check all my flight details are confirmed!! Ali and Rob join me and then we head for some more sunning!! The tan is really starting to show...finally I have been in this country for long enough!! We don't do much for the rest of the day, eat, and bathe. I have a snooze in the afternoon so that I am raring to go for the big night that evening!!
Ok, so let me explain, in Magnetic Island each month they have a huge Full Moon Party, the moon is obviously a full moon, they get DJs from around the country to perform and we party hard all night!! When we woke from snoozing, we went to the bottle shop!! Unfortunately, Base Hostel is a liscensed hostel, which meant we couldn't BYO alcohol, if we are caught it get confiscated...however, the drinks are seriously expensive, so we had to plan a way not to get caught!! I bought a small bottle of vodka, and Rob and Ali bought some Goon, and Heini, from our boat arrived today so she joined us in our quest for alcohol...on the long walk back to the hostel we thought of many ways to hide the alcohol!! I poured the vodka into an empty waterbottle, Heini hid her cans in her bag!! We planned to make out we had only exited the hostel to use the pay phone, so that they wouldn't check our bags...and after all the planning we had no trouble and walked straight in!! Now the party could begin!! It was already starting to get busy, Ali and I spent the next hour getting ready, showering, drinking, applying make up and drinking, and then dressing and drinking!! We were all pretty merry by the time we hit the party!! We met Jordon who had caught the ferry over from Townsville, and also Paddy, our Irish friend from the first bus!! It was so cool to have some of the originals all together again. I met Jess and Kath and the other girls too and we had a good few hours of partying!! We bought flouro sticks to brighten up the outfits, and kept sneaking back to our rooms for more alcohol!! God we were such backpackers!! We made friends with Mick the old security guy though, he knew what we were up to but didn't mind too much!! By about 1am the party started to die down, I totally sobered up and was enjoying watching everyone making a fool of themselves. We went to the beach and it was full of couples getting it on, so we decided to make a swift exit back to the party!! I chatted for a while with Kath, as her loser friends had managed to get hold of some 'illegal substances' shall I put it!! But neither of us were interested, and I had lost Ali and Rob, and Heini was with a guy so it was nice to have some company!! At 4am it was pretty dead, not the hardcore party we thought it was going to be but we still had a great night! We tried to break into the kitchen to find our peanut butter but we were caught by the security guard and had to run away giggling!! We had to put up with only crisps and made it till 5am...when the party finished!! Yes we were hardcore...and by that point very, very tired!!!
Saturday 19th April.............Last day at Magnetic Island!!
After only 6 hours sleep, I dragged myself out of bed for my free breakfast voucher...and I huge fry up went down a treat and livened me back up!! Two eggs, two hash browns (which I have never had before but they were good!!), two rashes of bacon, tomato and two pieces of toast...srumptious!! I decided there was no point going to bed, and slapped on the sun cream and headed out to the pool, everyone slowly started to surface, heads banging, asking about their actions...and it was funny to see everyone!! We got chatting to our new room mates too who are really lovely!! Three ditzy girls!! After my cheese and ham sandwiches and potato salad, I felt rather tired and had a good siesta!! In the evening I cooked a bacon and tomato pasta, except with a tomatoey mushroom sauce and it was so nice, the best I've cooked it so far. Ali and Rob went to bed early, Ali not feeling so good, and I stayed up chatting to a dutch guy, german girl, canadian girl and Ed one of the guys who was on the Boomerang Boat and I recognised him from the Waterpolo! It was good to chat and chill out, and so easy to make convo with everyone, just asking about travels and you here so many great stories, from the Dutch guy especially!! I went to bed, packed up my suitcase for the early start the next morning and headed to sleep at 10pm!!
The Oz Experience is coming to an end...and its so emotional!! Not much of Australia left now :(!!!
