Onto my last destination!! Make sure you have read the last New Zealand Blog!!
Sunday 25th May..............New Zealand ----------> FIJI
I arrived in the afternoon and checked in to my hostel, which was more like a hotel! I met some other travellers and enjoyed a BBQ with them that evening!! Then I went to sleep ready for my departure to the Yasawa Islands the next day!
Monday 26th May............Port Denarau ----> Coral View
I was up early and taken to the port where I grabbed a milkshake and borded my boat. My packeage was with Awesome Adventures Fiji, and it involved seven days and six nights on four islands!! The weather was beautiful and so hot, and the plan was to relax for seven days...but really to go home with a tan! Vain...me??...NEVER!! So off I set to the nothern most part of the Yasawa Islands, Coral View Resort and I bumped into Tash and Miles on the boat, from the Kiwi bus, which was soooooooo cool and awesome to see some friendly faces. The resort was lovely! Really nice and we were greeted and bags carried to our dorm, I was in one of the new one, all clean and with a really nice bathroom! We had a great lunch, I sunbathed and then had dinner meeting other people on my package!! A great day to start my trip!
Tuesday 27th May....Coral View Island
Today I was up at seven, loaded up with amazing fruits for brekky, and in the sun by 8am...good work and the sun was so hot, I sweated for most of the day and in the aftenoon went to visit the village, it was really cool to see how the Fijians lived. They lived in Bures, some made from wood, others from corrogated iron and concrete!! The houses were very basic, and facilties quite bad but everyone seemed happy!! They were so friendly, we met the chief which was cool and then drank the native drink, Cava, which I am told has a miture of effects from both alcohol and smoking weed, but we only had a little, and it tasted like muddy water, no disrespect! At the end of the trip, we visted to community centre and were able to buy souveniers, all of which were made by the women and all the funds went to the school, so spending $35 I felt glad to have helped and the jewellery was lovely, all beachy with shells and seeds!!
I continued to sunbathe in the afternoon and got to know the others better, in the evening we danced the Bula Dance and had a good laugh, bed at 10:30pm, so hardcore!
Wednesday 28th May...........Coral View---> Mantaray Island!!
So excited as I would be meeting Tash and Miles there! I had a massage in the morning before I left an hour full body, wow it was good, and then we left for Mantary Island! The resort was much nicer, but less natural, more commercial! The bar and amazing views over the other islands! We had a very competitive game of volleyball which was great fun, resulting in me making some fantastic dives, never getting the ball over however! In the evening we had a little too much wine and partied with the gay barman! Lets just say I don't remember getting home!!
Thursday 29th May.........Mantaray Island ----> Kuata
We had all day to sunbathe and made coconut braclets which turned out really nice, more bangles to add to my collection! We sweated for over four hours in the heat, the island was just gorgeous! Miles and I had a swim race, which I am proud to say I won, however, I could have passed out when I finished, I defo need to get back in the pool when I am home! The water was so blue and clear, it looked exactly like the amazing photos you see in the postcards, white sands, palm trees, hammocks, blue sea...absolute heaven! We reached Kuata in the evening and the rooms were more basic and the toilets were pretty grim, but dinner was great so I was won!! I went to bed at like 9am only to find many bites on my legs in the morning, as the retard sleeping above me left he fly curtain open...could have killed him!!
Friday 30th May....Kuata
Today I did nothing but sunbathe, the colour slowly starting to progress, and I met some of the people I had met on the first island which was nice! Walking around the resort, everyone was lovely and the all knew our names so it was really personal and nice! We lived for the sound of the drum signifying meal times, and lunch was so needed, as I was straining myself so much lying on my towel and soaking up the rays, haha! I put my name down for the Shark Feed the next day, exciting, I didn't do it today as the most irritating boy who has been on all my islands did it and I couldn't bear to be near him! He is the first annoying person I have met on my whole travel experience! Ah he was a nightmare! Anyhows, I had a great dinner and that evening we were welcomed to join the family that run the resort, we realised it was one big family, and we felt part of it sharing their Cava! It was such a nice evening, the men did a show doing lots of Fijian Dancing, then was out turn, we had to do the traditional Bula Dance, that was the same on all the islands, very amusing, then a mass Conga! I had a great time! Later we all sat and drank Cava and chatted, I had lots of it, so I was pretty relaxed and sleepy by 11pm so drifted off to bed!
Saturday 31st May..........Kuata ----> South Sea Island
The smallest of the Islands, we travelled to South Sea, opposite Bounty Island, where Celebrity Love Island was filmed! It was dark when we arrived and we checked in and enjoyed a curry dinner! Then we had party games, which turned out to be ice breakers!! The first was suck and blow where you have to pass a playing card from mouth to mouth sucking and blowing, without letting it drop! Very funny, next was passing an orange from neck to neck, which was great to see the lads cuddling up to each other, god I was wetting myself! And the last challenge, six lads picked partners, me being one and we had to put a ping pong ball up one of their trouser legs, across their crutch, and then down the lag and run back to the start!! Hilarious, especially as two of the lads had no underpants on!! Thankfully mine did!! We one the first two challenges, but lost the one where we won free drink...typical! In the evening, being much aquainted, we chatted and headed to bed around, listening to the drunkards singing all night! Great!!
Sunday 1st June..........South Sea Island ----> Port Denarau
On my last day, I relaxed, again, and soaked up the sun, feeling pretty happy with my tan, better then a month in Spain thats for sure!! I spent the day with a girl I had got friendly with the previous night, we chatted and then rented out a Kayak and paddled round the island, taking us a grand total of 15mins! It was tiny, but really gorgeous, you could see from one side to the other! I loved it there, and was sad that it was my last day! We had an amazing lunch buffet of meat and salads, and lots of fresh fruit! And chatted to some boys who sounded like they were from the set of Byker Grove, but they were lovely, we were doing the smae package and it was a real shame that we hadn't met earlier as they seemed like a laugh!! We boarded the boat, having caught the last of the sun and it was dark by the time we reached to Port! I caught the bus back and it really hit me then that my Gap Year was pretty much over, which was really sad! I would have loved it to have gone on longer, but at the same time I am so looking forward to getting home!! I reached the hostel, saw Tash and Miles, packed and threw lots away, and crashed!
Monday 2nd June............Goodbye Fiji.........Welcome my mammoth journey home!!
I left at 5am this morning! I flew with Tash and Miles to Sydney and then to Melbourne, and eventually I will get home!
The end of my travels have come!!
I have had the most amazing time! I have loved meeting people and have never felt lonely in the whole five months! Australia was amazing, New Zealand even better (I didn't think it could top Oz) and Fiji very beautiful and amazing!! I have learnt a lot about myself, I think I am a pretty nice person, without blowing my own trumpet, and because of it I have met some great people, some of whom I will meet with again one day! I am lucky to have had the best upbringing (thanks mum and dad and both Cragg and Parish family) and I am lucky to have been supported and encouraged to venture to the other side of the world on my own! It has been the best time of my life, I have done so many new things, seen so many beautiful things and most importantly I have laughed and smiled the whole way!!
I encourage everyone to go and travel, it has been so great, and you can even do it when your oldies...Grandma and Grandad are doing it and I hope I will be still moving around (hopefully not in smelly hostels and with a backpack) when I am a Granny!
I have been 'Living the Dream' it has sad to be ending, but I have had the time of my life and will remember it forever! I will never forget my experience! But for now, my world travels have temporarliy stopped...but not for good! I hope you have enjoyed reading!! Love to all and thanks for all my messages throughout! It meant a lot!!
THE END :)
