Hello everyone, we made it to Pokhara this morning after the most hilarious bus ride. Sat at the back of a bus for 12 hours with neon lighting, poles for pole dancing and an excellent selection of locals... We were told 8 hours and 'best quality'. Apparently not. If you think you have had a bad journey then try a bus in nepal and reconsider. However this place is amazing, surrounded by mountains and a beautiful lake. Very chilled and have just booked a white water rafting trip down the seti river for a few days, ending in Chitwan National Park for safari time!
To update you on the last week, Hats and I made a swift exit from Pushkar and headed for the pink city of Jaipur where we think we may have evaded a gem scam. Visited the Amber fort and monkey temple in ridiculous heat...very high hot mountain had to be conquered. Then on to delhi to meet up with george and mishi, romantically under the arch of the India Gate. Spent the day walking Delhi, and then back for a dip in the pool and a home made meal! Thanks Marina.
We had to wait for miss perry's arrival so filled the days travelling to Agra and the fantastic Taj Mahal at sunset, then Amritsar on the thursday. Literally the most incredible experience! First visited the golden temple and then headed to the Pakistan-Indian border for the most hilarious display of high kicks, stomping and masculinity. Not at all what we expected for the closing of the border routine. The ebst part has to be raving with a load of very seaty Inidan women infront of an enormous chanting crowd to Punjabi music. Obviously learnt some very entertaining new moves. We weren't sure whether to come home that night but made the best decsion of our lives to stay! Ended up having dinner with around 1000 pilgrims in a massive hall, courtesy of the generous sikhs, the slept on the floor of the temple complex, guarded by a sikh man listening to the priests chanting.
Once miss Perry arrived we headed from Delhi to Varanasi for a more serious cultural encounter, including a boat trip along the River Ganges at sunset watching the prayer rituals. Oh and also a highly entertaining bollywood movie which we understood about 4 words of...'long distance relationship' and 'break up' being key.
We are all turning into wonderful hippies with baggy trousers and walking sandals...truely fit. Perry is even managing to sell back her freebie deloitte gear to the shops - 'excellent brand'. Lord.
Will all be in touch after the rafting-safari adventure.
All our love
xxxxx
