Luvly Jubly!
The night bus wasn't too bad last night, Chris slept better than me though. I kept myself awake with horrible thoughts of the coach crashing, stupid I know. They woke us all up at 11pm to eat in a restaurant just after everyone had got off to sleep! I was tired, grumpy and I wasn't impressed.
When we arrived into Hoi An this morning we were lucky to bump into the Chile girls from the boat trip the other day. Their mini bus driver offered us a free lift into the centre of town to have a look at their hotel. When we got there we didnt even take a look, we went and sat in a cafe across the road, bought some breakfast and looked for guest houses online.
While we were eating our breakfast some Vietnamese guy kept pestering us to see his hotel. The accommodations online seemed to be expensive so we agreed we would go with him after we finished eating.
Every two minutes the guy kept checking to see if we were ready, he was starting to really annoy us, Chris kept telling him to leave us alone untill we finished our breakfast.
When we finished Chris jumped on the back of his motorbike and went to see the room. As soon as he left some other Vietnamese guy came over to me and asked me where I was from. When I told him I was from England, he said back to me "Luvly jubly!" then left. lol if I had a pound for every time someone said that to me!
A couple of minutes later Chris returned, he said the room was really nice and only $12, so I went with the guy to the hotel.
The receptionist and guy showed me the room, it was huge, it had a flat screen tv, a box of DVDs, a gorgeous bathroom with a huge bath, it was "Luvly jubly!" I couldn't believe it was all for only $12! The guy was pleased I was happy so he left to go and get Chris. I threw myself onto the big soft comfy bed and laid there for a minute, then just as I was about to start running a bath Chris walked in. He laughed and said this wasn't our room, the receptionist and guy had tried to use me to trick Chris into paying more for a nicer room. We were actually staying in the room opposite. It was still nice, by that I mean clean and had a tv. Most of all I missed the bath, I thought it was too good to be true.
After freshening up we left our room and walked around for a while. It seems to be quite a nice little city, not too high rise or busy, plenty of nice restaurants, cheap and expensive and lots of shops selling clothes. We also found the market, it didn't look too great but I did find the most amazing gadget! An electric mosquito racket! I had told Chris about these before, we haven't seen them anywhere until now. There isn't actually many mozzies in Hoi An so we won't need it right now, but I still made Chris buy it. No more running around the room with flip flops in our hands trying to swat every bug in sight lol. I have a killing machine!
I also bought a nice vest and baggy hippy looking trousers. It's a bit chilly here and we heard its even colder the further we go north, so we need to start looking for warmer clothes.
A little later after getting prices on tours from three different shops, we agreed and booked two. We have booked a Vietnamese cooking class for tomorrow, it looks really fun and better than most cooking classes we have seen offered. We will buy our own ingredients from the market, then take a slow boat up the river to a little island where we will begin our cooking lesson in a really beautiful open air restaurant. For the following day we have booked a trip to visit My Son Temple.
Later on we went out for dinner, we sat in a restaurant then realised the food was too expensive so just bought a drink each. It was so cold by now Chris had to run back and get his hoodie. When he left the waitress asked me where we were from. She didn't look too happy because we only ordered drinks, when she gave us the bill Chris noticed she had charged us more. She brought the menu over and showed us the price but the menu had more expensive prices in it. We went and looked at the other menus and found the one we had been shown first. After a quick discussion with her manager she came back with the reduced bill. We think they were just trying their luck with us, funny how they have different priced menus.
We are back in the guest house now and ready for bed. I've just been teasing a huge fish in the stairway, It's an ugly thing with a bad temper or it's really hungry! It watches you as you walk around it, get too close and he goes mental trying to get through the glass, it's really funny!
We can't wait for tomorrow, we think it's going to be really fun, well we really hope so.
