C*** Fighting Tournament
Skinni Mini was outside our door this morning, I thought she was waiting for her din dins (or breakfast) but She wouldn't eat, she just wanted a fuss! She's so noisy now and runs around my feet when I pet her, she has a little pot belly now too, I wish there was someone to look after her.
It was nice having a lay in this morning after being up early every day for diving, we almost missed breakfast though!
We tried transferring some films to the iPad from the owners PC, it was taking so long, after at least three hours we gave up. Shame though, they had every film and program you could think of, if only they had updated their software :-(
Chris went to see a c*** fighting tournament this afternoon while I stayed in the room to write up some blogs. He told me about it when he got back.
The ring was in an open space with metal barriers up around the edges and the judges sat watching from the side.
He watched as the trainers attached blades to their birds legs. The bigger the bird the bigger the blade! Then the two trainers ruffle their birds up by bringing them face to face then put them down on the floor about two meters apart from each other. The birds which are very territorial run at each other pecking and sctratching with their sharp talons, but most of the damage is done by the very large blade which slices and stabs the opposing bird. He said the two first fights only lasted two minutes and all four birds died. The third fight ended before it had a chance to start. He said the two birds were put face to face, then placed on the ground but as soon as they had one scuffle one of the birds made a fast run for it towards where the judges were sitting. The judges jumped up out of their seats to avoid being cut by the blade which was still attached to the bird. Then everyone around the ring started to jump out of the way as the bird escaped. He said it was very funny and everyone was laughing. Then just as everything was back to normal again the weather changed. It started to pour down with rain so badly that they had to stop the tournament. Chris hurried his way back to the room trying to dodge all the large muddy puddles that had formed, after only five minutes he was already drenched right through so just walked through them. He said everyone he passed laughed at him lol. Then came the thunder and lightening, it was so loud it woke me up. That's right, I had been sleeping instead of catching up on bloggs. I was only resting my eyes! Chris wasn't pleased with me when he got back. Poor chris was dripping wet. The thunder was so loud I could feel the vibrations shaking the whole bungalow! It must have been close.
Chris dried off and we watched films for the rest of the night. Oh I have passed responsibility for Skinni Mini to another English couple staying in the bungalow next to us. They just arrived this evening after the rain had stopped. I heard them fussing Skinni Mini outside our door. The lady commented on how thin Skinni Mini was so I went out and told them how bad she was when I found her a few days ago and how I had been feeding her. Then I said how I was concerned she will starve again when we leave tomorrow. The lady said she could carry on feeding her while they were here. I quickly ran in and grabbed the milk powder and can of meat loaf I had left and gave it to her, lol too late to change her mind now. Then they said they would also try to pass the responsibility onto someone else when they leave. Maybe Skinni Mini will become the backpacker (fat) cat of the resort :-)
I feel much better now knowing someone else will look after her, the couple came just at the right time! We have to get up early tomorrow for our last Thresher Shark dive. Then it's a long ten hour boat and bus journey down to the south of Cebu to swim with the Whale Sharks in a town called Oslob.
