We got a very cosy packed bus to Tulamben this morning, luckily it only took an hour and forty five minutes so we were there just after 11am. The weather felt even hotter today so the last thing we wanted to do was walk up and down looking for accommodation with our heavy bags on our backs. We looked around us and we appeared to be on a main road full of seaside restaurants and diving shops. A big sign in front of us pointed down a quieter street towards Bali Coral Bungalows. We stayed in a bungalow last night and it was lovely so we checked this place out first.
They had nice bungalows but no pool. It didn't matter though we only came here to dive then move on and fortunately the hotel had their own dive shop. I checked out the cheaper bungalow first while Chris sweated outside, the fan room was cool but there was no mozzie net up and I could already see loads buzzing around in there. I asked to see the bungalow with air con and it was exactly the same but included a net. I explained to the manager that I get bitten a lot then begged him into giving us the air con room for a cheaper price.
When Chris went to pay he asked the manager where the nearest ATM was, the guy said forty minutes away by bike! They had a card reader but it didn't work so he said he would take Chris to the ATM tomorrow for free. With that sorted we booked our dives with them. The USS Liberty ship wreck was so close to shore and only a five minute walk up the beach, there was no need to get a boat there which meant the cost of the dives were cheaper. We've decided to book two dives, one at 8am tomorrow morning and then a night dive in the evening. He kept trying to encourage us to go during the day but we had already read online that it would be ridiculously busy with snorkels and divers from other towns.
Afterwards we took a walk around town, or should I say the Main Street. There's nothing else to do here but dive, so after a yummy cheese burger each and some ice cream for lunch we headed back in and chilled out in our nice air conditioned bungalow. It would have been nice to go to the beach but it's very rocky and stoney, not really for bathing. We're planning on going to the Gili Islands at some point while we are in Bali so we will get plenty of nice sandy beach there. Later on we had dinner then back into our bungalow again to watch the rest of Karl Pilkingtons podcast before bed.
