Auckland, New Zealand
Date: whatever
Time: whenever
Location : wherever
After what seems like days, maybe weeks, circumnavigating airports, we finally arrive in Auckland, goose in hand, to find an unexpected, and rather bitter, south westerly breeze.
There is an emotional , very public reunion and high fives are exchanged with gusto and pure delirium.
Next task: locate hostel. Despite genuinely struggling to put a sentence together, we manage to get off at the right stop and trundle to our new abode.
Being the hardy travellers that we are, we refuse to bow down to our bodies and sleep and instead signed ourselves up for the beer pong competition. Although we had heart, we had no game and cracked under the pressure of the 50 spectators, not so quickly losing our match. But beer pong being the win win game that it is, we still felt like champions and drank our losers beer with pride.
You can take the girls out of England but you can't take England out of the girls; despite having meticulously planned not to buy food on each night out, we soon decided to make the most of our hostel vouchers and persuaded ( read: annoyed) the restaurant (legitimate, not mcdonalds) into giving us a portion of free chips and accepting minimal payment for the burgers.... Using our natural British charm, of course.
What we've learnt about Auckland city?
1) it's very clean
2) the shops are good (but don't sell coatswithoutsleeves)
3) the harbour is picturesque
Tomorrow we start our journey on the funky chicken - beginning with a trip to Hot Water Beach, to rekindle our youth and dig holes to create our own hot tubs!
