Vang Vieng, Laos
Hey....Sorry its taken so long to update....i couldnt work it and then i have been ill!!
Okay so we started in Bangkok......it was a little manic and we arrived first thing in the morning after about 20 hours of traveling....we found the place we were staying and sat in silence whislt i took it all in and rach planned her escape route!! After a shower we walked around Kohsan road which is the main backpackers street in bangkok.....lots of stalls selling things.....food venders that you can buy noodles from which they cook straight infront of you and tanks with fish in that eat all the dead skin off your feet.....we had one of those....it was like a massage....lovely!! Next day in Bangkok we got the bus to Kanchanburi and went to the tiger temple where we had pictures taken strolking the tigers....they were huge!! We also went to see a lovely waterfall and went on something called the death train but it wasnt scary or dangerous so...!!
We next got the sleeper train to Chang Mai which took 18 hours but you get your own bed and in the day time they fold it up to make 2 chairs with a table that you can sit at and look at the scenery go buy....lovely!! In Chang Mai we stayed at a great guesthouse with loads of areas to chill out and read you book...which after out 2 day treck came in very usefull!! The first day of our treck we had lunch at a waterfall and had a little paddle in it and then walked for about 3 and a half hours through the jungle to where we stayed at night. We slept outside on raised beds with a mosquito net it wasnt very comfy but very suiting. On the second day we got up and washed the elephants in the river and then got to ride them bear back which was amazing!! They are huge! And we fed the baby one too :) then we went white water rafting and then bamboo rafting....ours sunk so wasnt very successful!! Our next day in Chang Mai we had an all over body massage for about 3.50 pounds.....so relaxing and nice after our treck!! Then we went to the night market....lots of lovely stalls and pretty dresses....rach bought one!
Will have to write more soon i need a shower before tea....now i know how to do it i will update sooner!! Lots of love to everyone!! xxxxx
More to add!!!
Okay so after chang mai we made our way to Loas....this involved 20 hours over 2 days on a slow boat.....it had wooden benches for seats which were very uncomfortable and they were littlerally packed with people! We also managed to pick up food poisening over night which made the second day for me hell as i kept throwing up! When we arrived in Luang Prabang (a lovely riverside town light up by fairy lights) we had a little wander but too ill to stay out so we put a film on and went to bed!
The next day we got another bus to vang vieng where we met up with the boys.....this was like aholiday resort.....lots of young travellers....lots of bars and lots of alcohol for cheaper than chips!! We spent a few days here relaxing by the river.....on waterside bars that played music very loud and they all had rope swings and zip wires and slides into the river! As you can imagine alot of people were walking around on crutches and bandaged up!! Unfortunatley i stillhadnt recovered from my food poisening so had a few early nights!!
After a few days there we all went to the capital of loas....vientiene...it was an okay place but very expensive and not much to do there....there was a starbucks kind of place and we went bowling a few nights....(too modern for me...i like the older more remote places)
We next headed south to Pakse and then onto the 4000 islands in Loas...we had to get a sleeper bus that was acctually very comfortable.....you have to share a mini double bed thing and you get rice and water when you get on the bus for tea! Yummy! Pakse was deserted because we arrived on chinese new years day so everything was closed! So there wasnt much going on there but we managed to find a gorgeous restaurant which was on the 7th floor of a hotel and had views looking out to the river.
We got a mini bus the next day to the 4000 islands...we went to Don Kong first which was beautiful....no tourists....about 3 restuarants and 5 hotels...wegot bikes and cycled around the island and ended up speaking to a loas man and his family for nearly 2 hours! We spent a lot of time playing poker here as the boys taught us to play and convinced us to bet too.....we both came close to winning and i think they were all secretly impressed!! After a few days there we got a boat to another island Don Det....this was more touristy but had a little beach which was nice to relax on...we stayed in little huts on the river for a pound a night which was fantastic and got to relax in hammocks on our porches! We also cycled to another island Don Kon which was 4km away and went to see a huge waterfall!! There was also a little beach there and you could swim in the water....much needed after cycling in 30-35 degree heat.....we were dripping in sweat!!.....unfortunately as we started to cycle back and stopped for a drink i realised my purse was no longer in the bag...after 2 hours of looking for it i decided it had been stolen...we reported it as much as we could but got mum and dad to cancel cards......i had lost both bank cards...my travel sickness bands....and $100 as there was no cash machines on the islands and i needed to buy a bus ticket to vietnam i was unluckily carrying that round on that day! Fortunately becuase i am not alone i can use the others bank cards and just pay them back and alos andy's parents come out in march so they can bring new cardsfor me......very lucky!!
Will write some more soon.....currently in vietnam and jad a silk dress made for me!!! Its beautiful!! And just had some trousers made for mother....hopefully they will fit!! I made them a little bit longer than theyshould be for me becuase i thinkshe has slightly longer legs!! Lots of love to everyone!!xxx
