Week 9- (Thailand) Chiang Mai Day 5
After a fairly good nights sleep surprisingly, although it was like we were all in a big bed as every time someone moved the floors moved and ended up waking you up. We were awake at about 7am so we got up and sat at the front of the bamboo hut waiting for breakfast. More and more people started surfacing out of bed then the guides brought out tea and coffee and breakfast. Again breakfast was another feast, we had 3 slices of toast each and boiled egg each then they brought out extra toast and pineapple. Our group didn't have to leave until 10 am so we had plenty of time to chill and let our breakfast go down before we start our trek.
We watched Danny our guide making our lunch he was making noodles with vegetables (pad Thai) then we went for a little walk around the village and ended up in a a school, some of the children were playing outside so they loved seeing us and saying hello. As there was a lot of uphill trek yesterday, what goes up must come down so the majority of our trek was downhill today. Not sure which I prefer, downhill was still hard some of it we had to climb too. So we were still all sweaty betties! Then we went to the first small waterfall and had a dip, the water was soo cold so it was so refreshing! We stayed there for about half an hour in the mean time Danny was making us chop sticks to eat our lunch with.
Then we had another trek for about an hour some again most of it downhill. I have got awful blisters from my boots which were becoming very painful so by the time we had reached the second waterfall I was itching to take them off. This waterfall was bigger than the others we had seen again still cold so nice and refreshing. I had a freak out twice as I'm sure something was eating at my blisters so I nearly jumped on Katy once, after the second time I was quite quick to get out. There was flies everywhere by this waterfall which was annoying. Danny served lunch here, the noodles were packed in Palm leaves and served with bread. After lunch we got talking to a boy from Cambridge who had been in Australia and New Zealand before Asia so he was telling us about his experiences, can't wait to go there! We sunbathed for a bit and let out lunch go down then we set off again to the elephant camp.
Thankfully the rest of the trek was reasonably flat and easier so I was able to wear my flip flops, took us about half an hour to reach the elephant camp where we were staying tonight. During the walk back we were joined by a lot of wild dogs and even a baby monkey on a lead, with it's owner! Once we got there, we had a shower and then we heard elephants in the river next to our bamboo hut so we went out and watched 2 elephants having a bath! Was amazing too see, one of the elephants was very chatty! We then watched as 2 guides took the elephants into the jungle for the night so they can eat and sleep then the guides go and get them again in the morning. Dinner was ready early today about 5pm, we had rice with omelette (which Danny kept saying was made with elephant eggs ha) and vegetables with pineapple in. Was yet another large meal! Danny had made us bamboo cups earlier too, so Charlotte asked for some tea which was served in our bamboo cups! The tea is from a farmer down the road apparently!
So after a long day off trekking and waterfalls we sat in our bamboo bedroom by about 8pm chatting around a candle! We were all in bed by 9pm! Katy was scared because she could hear a Cicadas which is a large locus that makes really loud sounds and she thought it was in the room above her bed! We were all tucked up under our mosquito nets!
