Good Morning from Rio! It is 29 degrees outside and the sun is shining! I have had a fantastic time here. Yesterday I took the cable cars to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain where there are incredible views over the Bay and Copacabana beach. There were even these adorable little monkeys with stripey tails in the rainforest that still adorns the sides of this mountain. I then went all the way to the other side of the city - the Downtown area which is full of old colonial charm. Then right up to the famous statue of Christ which is so so so high up! When I was up there the view wasn´t as spectacular as hoped because I was actually above the clouds! But it was still fantastic. I am leaving Rio in about ten minutes to travel to Ilah Grande Island with my tour group (who are an awesome bunch, plenty of danes!) we have wine, cheese and crackers all ready for the beach this afternoon! I have throughly enjoyed my time in Rio, but it is a city of marked divides. The first night I was here I went for a drink with some guys from the plane and on the other side of the fence seperating the bar from the beach prostitutes plied their trade and the homeless sleep rough on the busy pavements. The Favela´s literally spill down off the hills and into the most expensive residential areas - overlooking some of the most exclusive mansions (free views!). This has been a brilliant first stop.
Until next time
