A year in Thailand
So doesn't time fly! This time a month ago I was leaving! A year will be round super quick and you guys are going to wish I was still in Bangkok!
So the events of this week...
Monday: Was a long day...and a very early day...once i got home I slept! We did play on the roof again at lunch...that was fun!
Tuesday: Went to the bar after work as I had a bit of a stressful lesson planning day...had a couple of beers and went home. Not much happened but I decided to open my presents early-mainly based on the fact that I will be up at 5am before gifts so I wanted to enjoy the experience...I got pancakes from Sam :D and some flop flips and a handbag from my mum! Was great!
Wednesday: Today I turned 28...boy I'm getting old. The day was pretty normal really. Did work talked a lot...got given some tea bags...but in the evening we went out for dinner! I have been craving something yummy for a while now so we went to one of the more tourist areas of the city and had a nice meal. I ordered brashetta, spinach stuffed chicken in an orange sauce, apple stroodle (which came with birthday candles and 'Happy Birth Day' written around the plate, and a HUGE cocktail...this came to a grand total of 565 BHT which is about £11...yum yum yum...
The taxi home was a little eventful...we had 5 of us in a taxi and had managed to persuade the guy to put the meter on (yup most of them think that because we are white we don't know how much taxis cost) we were going over a crossroads when another car almost went into the side of us cutting mr driver up! He was NOT happy! He wound down the window to give the other taxi what was what...the other taxi also thought he was a hard man so the cars were driving side by side, bother drivers yelling. After a while our driver sped up and cut the other driver up, you would think that this would have been it...but oh no, the other driver pulled up starting on our driver. We hit some traffic lights and they are both there yelling...on green they bother sped off trying to win...it was kinda like a race! Obviously our man was not happy by now so it just got worse, each of them trying to cut each other up, yelling and swearing in Thai...eventually we were at some more lights and I have no idea what the other driver said but our guy popped open the boot and got out of the car...i think at this point we were all thinking we were about to be killed by some mafi taxi guy in Bangkok! Before we knew what had happened the other guy skidded off in a cloud of dust running a red light...our taxi man got in and then said...'sorry...taxi man make man mad!' It was defiantly eventful and I think we all wondered if in fact we would get to see the 1st November.
Thursday: Had my first day of teaching today, I was with a guy called Scott and well I don't really want to write alot about it because my day was horrid. This Scott guy basically takes over your lessons and does nothing but make you feel bad. I totally lost it and forgot everything...and well yeah...not good day. I was home early in bed and I felt ill... Friday: Second day of teaching today. Went much better. Although I actually was ill today so I had a temperature and my voice was gone and everything. Went to the chemist to buy some meds...they actually sell you antibiotics over the counter here...:S its scary stuff! The day was much better thought and the kids were lovely. I think it helped that I didn't have Scott in my lesson. After work I went for a quick drink but I felt so rubbish I shared one with another teacher and then went to my bed. I was in bed by 6pm...I got to speak with my Mum and with Sam tonight so that was nice. After that I was just in bed... Saturday: ILL!!! Big style. Didn't do anything apart from buy some stationary to keep me organised and then I went back to bed. Sunday: Slept some more, went to the pool and had a salmon burger and a swim...slept some more...not as bad as I was but I think I will be heading to bed again shortly! I think this week has been a little dull...mainly because work has been hard, and I have not been very well. I hope that next weeks is a better read! Its crazy to think I have been here for a month already! I am sure that soon I will be used to the 5am get ups and the heat and everything but if this week has taught me anything it is that I need my sleep and that Bangkok had the potential to make a common cold one of the worst experiences possible... :(
