So I'm on the night train too Istanbul! I have a cabin to myself which is nice but I'm not sure whether or not more people will come. Sorry I didn't post like i said I was going to yesterday but the most annoying thing happened. I was on the night train to Bucharest and I was typing the blog for at least 45 minutes and when I went to save it, it deleted itself. I was so frustrated! But nevertheless I will restart where I left off.
After the bath day I went out to experience some of the night life. I met an English teacher and a maths teacher, they were a good laugh! The bars in Budapest are sooooo cool. They are big, open and usually half outside and half inside. It's hard to explain, but it was the decorations that made them look so cool. I'm sure every bar in Budapest is trying to out do the others by displaying the most random and abstract decorations. I saw tables made of cars, huge trees growing in the centre, abstract sculptures, guitars everywhere, bicycles hanging from the ceiling and pasta shapers lining the bar. This weirdness created such a fun atmosphere and they were all accompanied by a big screen showing some form of cartoon! The bars were definitely one of my favourite parts of budapest.
The next day was a pretty boring one. I did all my washing and booked travel arrangements and, of course, recovered from the night out.
In the evening I met some great guys from Belgium. There were 4 of them, all my age, and they listened to the same music. I had so much fun with them. Again we went to the crazy bars and the crazy clubs. The clubs were as crazy but just on a larger scale!
The next day we all decided to attempt some sightseeing. Budapest is split into two parts by the river: Buda and Pest. One has more historical sights to see where as the other has more contemporary. We decided to head to the historical side of things, to a place called castle hill. After only just making it to the top we rewarded with an amazing view of this beautiful city.
Well I'm three hours into this 19 hour rain journey! Just got into Bulgaria and it is hot hot hot!!
At the top of castle hill they had these amazing sculptures, my favourite was this huge omniscient hawk watching and protecting the city. Unfortunately we didn't see inside the castle due to a folk festival that was happening.
After a quick look at the breathtakingly humongous parliament building we headed back, ready for another night out. By the end of partying it was Sunday and we said a brief goodbye and exchanged details. I caught the night train to Bucharest. I didn't get much sleep which was annoying but I met a lovely couple. They just finished studying at Cambridge! One studied philosophy and physics and one studied English literature. So we had a lot to talk about which was nice. I didn't eat on the Sunday so I was planning on treating myself to a meal on the resteraunt carriage. But my luck was against me because they didn't accept card. I thought I was going to have a terrible night of hunger. But luckily the English couple had some food to share. But I promised myself to a treat when I got into Bucharest.
Bucharest was, unfortunately, pretty uninspiring. As I'm sure you will see by the pictures. Nevertheless I wanted to at least briefly see the city. I spent about 3 hours there! I had a fairly nice meal though. And a nice fruit platter! The hostel where I stayed was actually really nice. It was super chilled and had a tea Garden at the back with cushions everywhere. So I spent most of my short time there. And here I am! In Bulgaria being asked questions about my passport! Think I will e going to bed soon. Try and sleep through the rest of the trip. Just to give you an update of my plan.
I arrive in Istanbul tomorrow morning and will spend two days and one night. I then have another long journey to get to split in Croatia. I will get there Friday night. I will spend the weekend there and leave on Sunday for Italy. I will arrive on the Monday and stay with Giulia. We've booked a room in her aunties complex for a week. Then back up to Milan for a few days and finally back home on the 8th. Phone is still broken :(. Hope everyone is well. I miss you all do much.
All my love. X
