Crazy few days but I can now give you an update on what we've been doing! I think my last post was about the markets in Germany. The next few days in berlin were spent mostly drinking faxe ( a 10% larger) and struggling to wake up in time to see the sites. But we did manage to see most of the major ones. This was easily done because we went on a free tour. Here is a list if the sights I can remember:
• museum island
• monument commemorating women in the war
• the main street that was buzzing in the 20s
• check point Charlie
• memorial commemorating all the Jews that had died
• Hitlers bunker
•Reichstag
• Gates to the city
So as you can imagine there will be a lot of photos to follow! They were all very interesting, I'll talk to you about them separately in person. But generally speaking Berlin was a very good and interesting city. It is famous for its new mixed with old. But for me what stood out about this city was its heavy connection to the war. Naturally it was full of memorials, but I felt that it was still feeling the effects! A very powerful city in terms of emotions. We were sad too see it go, but excited to move on to Prague.
When you enter a new city you get a new atmosphere. It's hard to explain but it's the feeling you get web your just wandering around aimlessly for the first few hours. Prague had a great atmosphere, I think it was partly due to the fact that we just left Berlin. Their we had big vast streets, vast memorials, eerie but important atmosphere. It fitted Berlin perfectly and was a good feeling. In Prague it was almost the opposite, charming, medieval, small tight streets and fun. This juxtaposition of Berlin's atmosphere next to pragues really worked for us. The first day we actually saw a lot of churches and monuments and clock towers. The church had some of the finest stain glass windows I have ever seen. The pictures don't do them justice but you can get the idea. Unfortunatey that night Ben got hurt. We said goodbye and I headed towards Budapest!
The cougette was actually good fun. I really enjoyed it and it only cost €9. I didn't take a picture of it but just google 6 bed cougette. I arrived early in the morning and after dropping my stuff at the hostel I went straight to the bath. I treated my self and actually went to two! I split them up with a trip to a market. They were really interesting, I got the biggest burger ever cooked in front of me. Real beef and real fresh salad. All for £2!! They also had about 30 or so carp, big carp, swimming in a tiny tank. That was seriously weird. I left the hostel at 10 and got back at 5. So as you can imagine my fingers are very wrinkly. The baths are so nice, they have such a selection as well as extras like saunas. Think I'm going to go on a free walking tour tomorrow. Should be fun. Going to get some foo now! Hope all is well!
