After disembarking from the luxury bus with no complications at the border either, I was in high spirits. This was soon to be dashed when I was dropped off randomly at the end of a road by a taxi man, which meant I had to walk with my rucksack, which is the same size and weight of me, through the backstreets of Chinatown where rats the size of sausage dogs scuttled around my feet! Had it not been for the Chinatown lights from the street market masking their nasty fury little faces I would've sworn they were giving me the eivl eye! Note to self - do not eat at the dark food stalls or get a sausage dog for memories!
Anyway, after booking into a grimy room which felt like a shoebox with 2 holes for ventilation I took the initiative to take a look around the city and find soemwhere else. With my lonely plante bible in hand I wandered about the city in the dark getting to grips with the place. It was nice. It was pleasant and quiet. In fact it was ruddy creeepppy!! what a plonker thinking anything was going to be buzzing at 9pm! but I found another hostel and sat and watched a random western film and chatted to ppl til 3 am. Early night compared the previous ones in Singers!
The next day I took myself around the city prepared with the knowledge on where to go from the ppl I met the night before and the local tips. I walked all day and my tiny little feet were pooped by the time we got back to the not so grimy hostel - which is actually an old cinema, bit of interesting fact for you! I visted everywhere! By local bus I went to the Batu caves where the cheeky monkeys nick your possessions if you're not careful and then hiss at you when you try and get them back - RABIES RABIES RABIES is all I thought so I quickly moved on away from them and down the 277 steps that got me close to them in the first place! On my way there a lovely local who helped me get there decided to read my palm which seems to be a common occurence on this trip so far! Only nice things to say though!
After there I went to see the Batik craft which is where they use old fashioned techniques with beautiful colours to print on silk and succumed into buy some, but beautiful fabrics. But the highlight before some retail shopping was having a piece of cake up on top of the KL towers in the revolving restaurant overlooking the whole of KL. Awesome views across the whole place with a lovely huge portion of cake and ice tea was something special!
As for the local food, if anyone does come - go to Mr Satay it's absolutely amaazing bbq "chicken" satay squewers ... though i'm not so sure on the meat aspect, they sure are yummy!
Next stop Koh Tao to find sun and fellow divers!
