Good morning, America! Happy Friday to all of you.
Yesterday's adventure took us on a long, windy, hilly, narrow path to the GORGEOUS beach of Porto Katsiki, and we'll just say that after that much time paying that close of attention to the roads, this blogger decided not to attempt good communication last night. So, as I write this most of you should be asleep as it is the middle of the night there!
So, as mentioned already, we made our way to Porto Katsiki yesterday, which is Evie's "second favorite" beach on the island. We did make one panoramic stop near Agio Nikita, which is on the northwest coast, and the reception site is near there. There are some pictures from there in the album.
If you look at the map in the photo album, the red heart is the pin I dropped where our villa is. The blue dot is where we were at the time. Looks like it's not too far away - but when you're climbing mountains and descending mountains and navigating a rocky, irregular coastline? It took well over an hour. Thank God for the Greeks leading us there!! But as Mike said, he's not even a beach guy and this was TOTALLY worth the trip. You basically stood right there and couldn't believe what your eyes were seeing. I've never been to the Caribbean, but those that have been said that even there had NOTHING on the color of this water. It was truly turquoise. There was no visible salt or sediment floating in the water AT ALL. 100% clear. You could see the fish swimming well below you. The coast drops off very quickly and the bottom was rocks, not sand. So it was truly crystal clear water. Yes, salty, but not as salty as the pacific. So, we proceeded to spend a good 3-4 hours in the sun and water. Which most of you know is oddly tiring!! Evie had to get back for a nail appointment, which was totally fine with us as we pale Germans were starting to get a little pink around the edges. The trip back was a bit more nervewraking as Mike was low on gas and once you're outside Lefkada town gas stations are few and far between, and we came up on one hill that we coasted down on the way there that caused our manual car to stall out. So I had to coast backwards down in a car whose brakes don't fully engage when it's stalled out. Nothing like hoping you can make it up a hill while hoping you don't go off a drop off backwards behind you. I can relate this to you all now as we did make it up the hill and safely home.
As a day of sun and complete attentive driving can exhaust everyone, we got home and pretty much spent the evening relaxing, with dinner and chilling for everyone. My personal goal after yesterday's drive is to not get anywhere my near our car until tomorrow!! As the plan today is just to stay in and enjoy the house and pool, there won't be much to report tonight, but perhaps we'll have some photos!!
I've also added a couple of videos of the drive to the videos page.
Have a wonderful day!
