After a sneaky order of room service, and a gigantic 15hour sleep in what could only be described as the comfiest bed iv ever slept in, we finally emerged from our room at half 2 in the afternoon to explore. And by explore I mean sitting by the pool in the sun with an ice cold latte. Bliss.
After getting ready, we ordered a taxi to take us to a the banyan tree hotel which is home to the most amazing sky scraper cocktail bar called vertigo and moon bar. The taxi took nearly 40 minutes for a 6 minute journey - first lesson of the day is not to jump in a taxi in rush hour. Watching the meter get higher and higher we were getting a bit uneasy about how much the price would be. After pulling into a nearby road the Taxi driver made us get out and walk the remainder of the way, and the fare only came to 108 baht (which works out to be around £2.10). Second lesson of the day is ask for your change!!! otherwise you won't get it as we unfortunately found out!
The vertigo moon bar was out of this world. Nothing prepares you to how beautiful the view is and how high up you are! The photos certainly don't do it justice and the setting works as a beautiful backdrop whilst sipping on your overly priced cocktails overlooking the hustle and bustle of the crazyness that is Bangkok.
Finishing our drinks we headed back down to the lobby where another taxi was ordered to take us to the famous Khan San road! Imagine Magaluf being crammed into one long street and you get the gist. Bars upon bars offering buckets, cocktails and 'very strong' drinks, cockroaches and scorpions being shoved in your faces on sticks, and street food everywhere you looked. we settled on kims bar, and was soon sipping on Long Island ice tea from Beach buckets. It wasn't long before we were approached by 2 travellers one still wearing his backpack wobbling all over the street, and another called Ian who seemed a lot more sober. They instantly became our new best friends and stuck with us for the remainder of the evening! We also were joined by one of our friends back home who is now working and living here. He took us to lots more bars and clubs where the drinks carried on flowing. 4am quickly swung around, and it was time for a crazy tuk tuk ride back to our hotel, making sure we stopped for a drunken feast on the way!
