Chan & Dan's Travels
Hello Everyone,
Sorry we haven't written for a while but it's been mad! Have been driving up the coast in our camper so have been on the move pretty much everyday. How are you all? Well we hope! We picked up the wonderful "Wicked' camper in Brisbane as you can see from the pics and drove straight to Noosa, which was bloody lovely! Definately one of our favourite places we have been to in Australia so far! Stayed there for three days in a really nice campsite right on the beach. There were lots of other Wicked vans there too so it was nice and we made some friends.
From there we drove to a place called Elliott Heads which is a little off the normal tourist trail (recommended by some Australians at the campsite in Noosa). It was really nice if a little quiet for us! The campsite was practically empty and right on a desserted beach! Really good, got bitten alive by mozzies though!
From there we went on up to the town of 1770 which is where Captain Cook first landed in Queensland - hence the name! Was ok but the campsite was packed - again right on the beach. So we only stayed there one night.
From there we drove north again to Rockhampton - by far the funniest place we have experienced in Australia! Very rural, the beef campitol of Australia...which should tell you something about the place. The people were v.strange, made the Forest of Dean folk like New Yorkers! Chan & I got stared at wherever we went. Got there and found out that it was Labour Day weekend, so decided to drive out to find somewhere to camp on the coast. Rather than stay in "Rocky" itself due to wierdos! Promptly got a flat tyre! The valve came out! "Chan is that sound coming from our van?" "yep" most amusing as I had to put my finger over the hole while Chan scrabbled on the floor for the valve so we could 'stuff' it back in! Which we did but we had to call the roadside assistance so that we could get someone to change the tyre. He came out and put the spare one on but told us that we had to go and get the other tyre fixed and put it back on. We thought that was cool until we went to Bob Jane (like kwik fit) which Chan kept calling Billy Bob (she began to fit in with the Rockhampton people!) The closed at 4pm - it was 2pm but they had just packed up and gone home! Threatened with three day in Rocky we finally found some people who were closed. With a bit of begging he agreed tpo fix the trye! What a man! Phew so we drove out to a place called Emu Park-another campsite on the beach (we just can't get enough!) and spent two days there. Which was lovely...if very humid.
Yesterday we did our longest drive yet...400kms to Mackay, half way there there was a really big storm and we realised that the van leaks! Nice! So we pulled up at a very soggy and flooded campsite and stayed there last night with fears of annacondas slithering through the sodden field to come and get us!
Today we drove up to Airlie Beach (gateway for the Whitsundays) to a really nice campsite. We have booked to go on a sailing trip around the islands for Thursday which should be nice. Going to check out a waterfall tomorrow. Then its on up north.
Sorry this has gone on a bit but haven't been anywhere to update recently! Will try and put pictures on soon, Lots of Love Chan & Dan xxxx
