So we arrived in Sydney to clear skies and beautiful sunshine...... or not.... it was actually cloudy and raining. So much for getting away from the New Zealand winter! We picked up our hire car and headed South to Woolongong where we stayed overnight en route to Jervis Bay. Unbeknown to us it was the day that New South Wales switched to daylight saving, so when we got up early the following day to go whale watching it was an hour later than we thought?! Thankful...

Hi all, sorry for the very long delay in writing this blog - life has been somewhat busy since we landed in Australia. Anyway here goes.......... Dunedin looks very like the Scottish city of Edinburgh especially the town centre. The train station is probably the most famous landmark in Dunedin, standing inside is like being in the nineteen twenties. The YHA we stayed in was once an old hospital and was rumoured to be haunted! The TV room was down in the base...

After another early start in Franz Josef we headed further South to Wanaka. Along the way we stopped at Lake Matheson, known locally as 'mirror lake', but unfortunately it was a little too cloudy to get a picture post card photo. Wanaka is small town which sits on the edge of a crystal clear alpine lake and has Mount Aspiring NP as a backdrop-pretty beautiful as you can see from the pics.
