06/12/2009 as our plane taxied to the runway, our final sight of India was of the slums that surround the airport and half a dozen men squatted over buckets, on a piece of waste land contemplating the day. (sums up India) at least they used buckets!!!
5 hrs later we are in Singapore, Bright, Clean, Oh so clean, Our hotel is in the Geylang district, and shares the road with 26 brothels, Its very friendly and not at all sleazy . The main road is full of buzzing cheap food halls that sell amazing chilly crab (what a mess, up to my elbows in sauce) and prawn dishes, Along with some weird dishes of Bullfrog and crocodile feet, Geylang is not a touristy area (apart from the above) but it does have a great vibe.
The city centre is only 10 mins on the MRT rail network (London underground and Boris should really have a look) Its full of high rise and huge underground shopping malls with China town and little India thrown in. (Oonagh says "it's a shoppers paradise" every named and high street shop) Its weird, 32 degree's outside, 90 % humidity with Christmas tree's, over the top decoration and lights everywhere, Supported by xmas carols. Oonagh even found a hotel that had all you can eat chocolate buffet nights "Heaven" she says. Singapore has its own version of the London eye but higher with great views of the city. And a novel night zoo, Which is good but different (but it is hot and sticky when your walking around & about)
We would come back, Yes it's great for a stopover even if it is a little over priced (Minimum £5.00 a pint ) Its better to stay just out of the city centre or you will pay through the nose. Our 4 nights was about right.
