Bonjour
Monday the 28/09/09 we crossed the Pyrennes mountains leaving behind our 8 weeks in the parched lands of Spain, Imagine our shock as we arrived back in France, green grass, damp ground, cows grazing, It reminded us of home, I don't think we realised how much we missed the green countryside. We camped in Lourdes at a recommended site (thanks Jan), a 5min walk beside the river to the Grotto, A very sad, but wonderful tranquil place, We where amazed at the numbers of very ill people, all beleiving and hoping, it seems like a clutching at a last chance for some, Oonagh was moved to tears. A nun asked Dale if he would take a picture of her group with her camera, next minute he was inundated with cameras, (well you can't say no to a nun can you), we lit our candles and collected our holy water, did the sightseeing tourist bit ( even the tacky shops outside) and savoured the atmosphere of hope, a humbling day
Wednesday 31st Biarritz or Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrritz it was flipping cold we even slept in jumpers and socks one night, but it is hot by day, all the camp-sites are closed now, so we stayed outside town in the beach resort of Bidart for 3 nights, Surfers paradise ( no surf ), the water shutes at the site pool filled the days, Surfer dude ( a surfing instructor from Cornwall staying on our camp-site) told us about Padang, we were meant to be going there in January?. Thursday IT RAINED the first daytime rain since the 22nd June, (only for an hour though), so we went sightseeing and the sun didn't break through untill 5pm and has stayed out ever since.
Saturday the coastal village of Labenne, last week the world surf championships were held here, So we doned our wet suits and hastily headed to the beach. Flat, the Atlantic ocean was flat, the stormy bay of Biscay was like a sheet of glass, so we took to our bikes (Dale fell off his and cut his foot, obviously the prayers in Lourdes didn't work, the Lord does really hate his feet) and explored the local area. The nights are warm again now thank god. and the whole stretch of coast line is lovely , Quaint french villages and huge empty beaches, and property at reasonable prices, certainly an area to look at?
Monday the 5/10/09 we moved on to Moliets (we could live here), we bumped into Surfer dude and his girlfriend in the supermarket to the annoucment of surf UP !, although a bit shorey and messy, (whatever that means), Anyway wetsuits on and we had fun, and its 30 degrees by day and 18 degrees by night, although its quite now and mostly closed down, you can feel it would be really buzzing in peak season. (lifes great)
Au revior the Chaffers
