Alaska to NYC -
Leaving Alaska was a bit of an effort. After a sea plane to Juneau, flight to Seattle, overnight flight to NYC on a horrible delta flight, and early morning negotiation with the nyc subway (we jumped on a train to manhattan without a map) we some how fluked our way to our hotel - St Marks hotel in the east village. Early morning arrival meant we had the rest of the day to enjoy NYC, however it was good time to eat and snooze time. This meant we had the whole afternoon to walk down to Brooklyn bridge and wall street. We seem to have our walking legs on because we managed to make it to the ferry and headed over to Staten Island. Lots going on in wall street, protesters were out and about hassling everyone, tv crews and crazies everywhere.
Our hotel was in a really funky area near Soho. Lots of trendy bars and restaurants, fabulous location. Thanks for the recommendation Bergs! Really good price and perfectly located.
The second day we headed up to the natural history museum. Definitely recommend this museum, however don't go there on an empty stomach! There is so much to see. We zoomed through it pretty quickly and finished in about 4 hours. Spent the rest of the day walking around the city. That night we headed out for dinner a fabulous Japanese restaurant call Gyu kaku. We get the raw meat and cook ourselves on our very own cooker on our table. Delicious!
We did the usual things over the next couple of days, empire state building, walked down broadway and 5th avenue, times square (great to see but glad we weren't staying near there, way to many tourists!), and the highline skywalk over the lower west side. Also decided to add a bit of fitness and went for a run around central park... Chad left me for dust, hot day and after a few bevvies the night before wasn't fabulous but we did it!
One of the best things about NYC was the happy hours at all of the bars, made it very affordable to drink. Plus it was also quite easy because downstairs we had a great bar. Chad's highlight was visiting the famous Tom's restaurant which is featured in Seinfeld - most underrated tourist attraction in NYC.
Unfortunately, our last memory of NYC was going through the security check to fly to Mexico, wasn't that fun and very long! Lucky I'm traveling with Chad because we were early and there was no problem, lots of people were missing their flights!
