Today the girls travelled to Merseyside to play our friends and close rivals Mersey Girls FC.
A windy day, bobbly pitch and good opposition we expected a test and that's what we got.
Cestria attacking with intent with the wind behind us took the lead through Megan Beel who slid home courageously. The girls continued to play their passing game on the difficult surface but, against the run of play, Mersey equalised with a deflected shot right in the top corner. Cestria soon restored their lead after excellent work from Rosie on the right wing who produced the perfect cross for Jess to head home.
HT Mersey Girls 1:2 Cestria Galaxy
Cestria stretched the lead to 3-1 within minutes of the restart with a well worked move involving Briggsy, Meg and Beth who coolly slotted home. A flurry of chances came and went for us and our defence remained solid as ever at the back. Mersey rallied late on and went close with a couple of shots but Cestria remained comfortable and saw the final few minutes out.
FT Mersey Girls 1:3 Cestria Galaxy
Well played Mersey Girls and good luck for the rest of the season.
