We arrived in Auckland early evening and met by David who took us back to his and Lisa's house. They very kindly let us stay there for a week so we could look around Auckland and do our skydive! We had a lovely stay there which included a lot of board games with the kids (we reckon we could beat anyone at monopoly now!), the museum of Auckland and a trip out to One Tree Hill which Cerys was thrilled about!
We had a quick shopping trip in Auckland for warm clothes seeing as we owned NONE between us haha (though the jacket from Kate served Cerys very well (:) and managed to buy thermals, hats, gloves and some jeans. We were all ready to tackle the NZ winter now hehe.
Half way through our stay in the north island we hired out a car and drove down to Lake Taupo for adrenalin sport number 2! After a few minutes having to work out how to drive the automatic car we drove 3 1/2 hours south arriving in Taupo in the evening ready for our skydive in the morning. We found nice camping spot by a river and slept in the car. No hotels for us now!:P. This has got to be the coldest night we've slept (slept is used loosely) through! we used towels a blanket and hoodys to keep us warm hehe.
We survived the night and now had to tackle a skydive! At 10am we got to the airfield and geared up in our sexy jumpsuits and harnesses. Me and Cerys decided to go all out and jump from 15 000ft which is 60 seconds of freefall falling at 200kmph! Despite using half our NZ budget on the jumps they were amazing!! and pretty funny for me watching Cerys fidget and nervously chat her way through the wait. The rush was incredible and it was better than my first though when we landed again, we both found our fingers and toes had turned to ice! We had a clear sunny day and even got to float down through the wisps of cloud after being shown the East and West coast of NZ. Cerys did her usual little victory dance hehe! One of the best days we've had!
Cerys drove back that night (4 1/2hours) after stopping at some thermal springs where Cerys took every chance to mention Lord of the Rings or frodo or road to mordor and it was a steamy ancient world with lots of 'hot bubbly mud'.
We finished our stay in Auckland at David and Lisa's on the Tuesday night and drove to the airport on Wednesday for our flight to the even colder Christchurch!
