So got ALOT to talk about, but will try and keep it kind of short(!)
The nightbus we took was epic, didnt really sleep much, and it was really hot on there, but it was actually better than expected!!! We arrived in Arequipa, which was 2000meters above sea level. Our tour guide, Jesus, recommended we have a break to get used to the altitude. That evening I tried Alpaca, which is similar to Llama, it was delicious, like beef steak (well, not quite as good).
Day 6 we needed to be up quite early to sort bags, but a few people from the tour ended up getting in at 5am from a night out, really drunk, and woke us up`which was nice...we made a point of telling them they only had an hour´s sleep and they were actually still drunk when they got on the bus to go to Chivay!!! It was a 5 hour bus journey, and it was the longest 5 hours of my life. I ended up having being sick...we weren´t sure whether it was the altitude or the really awesome(!) roads they have here. Either way, it was terrible!!! Finally arrived at a LOVELY hotel, in the mountains, and we went for a hike even though I felt ill. It was actually nice, but walking in higher altitude definitely takes it out of you (or at least the altitude was my excuse!!!!!) We later went to a hot spring which was well deserved because i was feeling ill, it was COLD and we had to get up early AGAIN the next morning.......the hot spring was 39C i think; oh man, i did NOT want to get out of that!!! Went back to the hotel and had an exciting soup for dinner (as well as lunch, lucky me) and headed for an early night.
Day 7, well last night, didnt really sleep much as was up and down to the toilet, which Jodie and Rosa loved i am sure...again, didnt eat much, but got in another bus on the bumpy road to go to the Colca Canyon to try and see Condors. I did not feel well, but the view that i managed to see was gorgeous...mum definitely wouldnt have coped with it, because it was so high! in fact we were so high above sea level, we were not that far from the top of a mountain where the top was COVERED in snow!!! Anyway, we didnt see any Condors :( so tour guide suggested a hike. I decided not to do this because i was still feeling so unwell, so i stayed on the bus and fell asleep (boring) but the bus driver actually nudged me because he saw two Condors!!!!! The afternoon/evening we went back to Arequipa and slept!!!
Day 8 was the saddest day because we were told that Cuzco had had lots of very bad weather and Inca Trail could be called off. We managed to actually get on the plane (no travel sickness) but their planes are funny because they can stop half way!!! we did actually stop somewhere and and found out that Cuzco was still really bad and that Inca trail was cancelled. The first bridge had collapsed and approx 2000 people were stranded there. We later found out the two people died in a mudslide and Cuzco actually turned into an emergency zone for 60 days. When we got to Cuzco we sorted out a nice ENGLISH BREAKFAST and then chilled out in Cuzco for the day. We went to a Market but the way they store their raw meat is disgusting, i couldnt cope and had to go back to the restaurant with some other people...later found out that other people drank this frog juice...i dont know, its hard to explain but im glad i didnt stay!!!
Anyway, alot has happened, and Jesus is doing as much as he can, but there is not alot we can do about it....I am fine though, very glad my group is all safe, but there are so many people still stuck in the area of Inca trail today....... x
