Crossed from FYRO Macedonia into Greece and soon was amazed by the stark contrast in the landscape and vistas.
We decided we were too close to the historic city of Thessaloniki so we drove into the historic district and had lunch where we enjoyed a wonderful Greek lunch overlooking the city bay and the Aegean Sea.
We took off for Larissa, stopping once for refreshment and scenic views at a hotel near the sea.
Finally made it to Larissa where we found the Larissa Christian Center and we're greeted by our good friend Pastor George Yfantides. They were in the middle of a bible study when we arrived but everyone there greeted us warmly.
After a time of prayer, George took us all out for dinner...probably the best gyro I've ever eaten!
Met Vicky and her three kids. Also had the opportunity to meet George's younger son, Stathis. He is 23 and speaks great English; a real pleasure getting to know him a little. He is leaving in September for 9 months of mandatory military service and I have a feeling George will miss him a lot. George introduced him to us as, "my beloved son, Stathis". Really cool.
Stathis plans to possibly attend Tyndale seminary in Amsterdam after his stint in the army.
Awesome note - less than a block away from the church there is a large archaeological dig where they have uncovered an amphitheater from the 3rd century B.C. Now that's an old stadium!
Nice night in a comfortable hotel near the church. Cold AC!
