Wow...now this was a long day. We leisurely took our time in Mostar, enjoying the cool, comfortable room before walking the street in front of Stari Most again.
We left town around noon and enjoyed a stunningly scenic drive through the mountains of eastern Bosnia; some of these towns endured the worst of the damage and impact during the Bosnian war. Gorazde, Visegrad...how could such horrible human tragedies take place in these beautifully serene settings? The hearts of men can be very dark, given the right set of circumstances.
The only problem we had was underestimating how long it would take us to drive these back and forth, two lane roads. Our plan was to drive a little over 400 miles....it took us until after 1am to arrive at a hotel room near the city of Skopje, Macedonia.
Our longest day of travel (hopefully) for the whole trip.
