So Christmas has been left so far behind in the distance that all we can see when we look back is the top of an over decorated tree disappearing over the horizon. The shock of it being a whole decade since the millennium isn't proving as easy to leave behind, but it is fading gradually with the thought that 2010 has more potential for adventure and magic than if Harry Potter found the Faraway Tree.
Now that winter has stopped being fun as everyone can actually make it into work and soft white powdery stuff has stopped featuring on the news 24/7 (and yes, i'm refering to the weather related stuff) it must be time to leave...
First stop Sri Lanka. So which direction will this take me in...will I be discovering life's secrets? Studying the country's turbulent political history? Caring for baby elephant orphans? Nope, I think I'll most likely be looking for the world's population of honeybees.
Recently, Colony Collapse Disorder has been making headlines and the world lives in fear of losing their honeybees and billions of pounds worth of crops due to lack of pollination. However, recent scientific research has indicated that the bees - who have been known for centuries to have one of the most sophisticated social structures on the planet - have actually been warping themselves to a small fishing village in southern Sri Lanka where they are gathering to resolve some sticky business; most notably which planet they should flee to in light of the impending ice age.
I just don't know if I'll be able to persuade them to stay, or even if I'll have perfected a suitable bee-communication device by Friday, but it's worth a shot because honey just tastes so damn good.
