Gday Cathy here.
Our first night in Florence was straight out of a bad italian film. We were taken to a restaurant in an old monastery and the concierge was an italian dean martin. he would grab a microphone and start singing all the great Italian top of the 1950's pops. Tell me Quando Quando Quando! We sang along to 'When a big pizza pie hits you right in teh eye. That's amore'. It was hilarious. There was another old guy that looked like Mel Brooks and never cracked a smile. He was playing up to the crowd and amusing us greatly. The wine deal was Euro5 (aud7.50) for an unlimited glass. No such rum and coke deal I'm afraid.
Florence was great. Thankfully we are heading back there after Cinque Terre so we have more to explore. We went to Padua yesterday morn (no not the school in Kedron but the place). Saint Anthony of Padua has his own basilica there. It is a little strange but we have seen the religious relics in a few churches, St Anthony's tongue and vocal chords were in teh church - eeeewwww is all I can say. Thankfully they don't do copies of them to sell at the tourist shops. We saw St Catherines finger in the church in Assisi and that was a bit freaky too.
As always on tours there are unusual people on them. There are 3 sisters (one from gundy, 2 from sydney) who wafted on to the bus the first morning all pearls, expensive clothes and light overcoats. We call them the Clouseaus (as in inspector) or the 'Pearl Girls'. There are another 3 sisters, a bit older and less able. We call them the 'Kransky sisters' as they are just a little unusual. There are australians, canadians, a lebanese couple, a couple from venezuela who live in australia. I cannot imagine what they are calling us on their blogs - perhaps the Loren sisters, the Veronicas- not sure.
We went on a tour of the Doges Palace yesterday and had a gondola ride. All lovely. Venice is just lovely. Krista is exploring on her own today as I fight off a cold. We are doing a boat cruise tonight - I hope George Michael sings us a few numbers. Powderfinger are on teh radio here at the moment, have also heard Men at work and kylie.
We go to Lake Como tomorrow and I'm sure if I don't see George Clooney in Venice tonight (the film festival is on) then I'm sure I'll see him at the villa in Como. Shops in Venice full of Murano glass which is lovely. Too much nice stuff to buy.
Anyway must go rest. Finally we have done the laundry too as I had run out of clothes.
Happy Fathers day to all on Sunday.
love
Cath
