Gday again Cathy here. Just finishing up on Portovenere before we leave tomorrow.
First day we just wandered around the town and saw a wedding
Second day we went out on a great boat trip that took us to the 5 Cinque Terre Towns. We got out and explored at a few.
Third day we got the train to the 5 Cinque Terre towns but the rain had begun.
Fourth day we awoke to a thunderstorm so decided to do some admin. Our much wanted laundramat didn,t appear as there is only one in the main town LaSpezia or in the next village La Grazie. We didn,t fancy lugging our smalls (and not so smalls) on the bus so we handwashed and will worry about the rest in Florence. Once the thunderstorm passed we jumped on the bus to Le Grazie and went to the Madonna Festival there. It was the last day of the festival so it was good to get there. It was like the ekka running down a long street. Ending at the church on the harbour where we lit more candles and got prayer cards. Some good shopping too. Last night we had dinner at a really local place. The speciality of the region is a crepe, pancake type thing that is savoury. we tried a few things at the restaurant and it was quite good.
Fifth day today and we were going to get a boat to Portofino. Unfortunately the storms were back and the good captains of Portovenere agreed that no boats were leaving the harbour. We jumped on teh bus to La Spezia to see if we could get a train to Portofino. It could be done but wasn,t feasible after the big thunderstorm we went through again in la spezia so we decided just to investigate the town. we had a great shopping and photo taking day and got back to portovenere about 3ish to read our books. It is 6pm now so it is nearly time to head to crazy pool man,s bar for a cuba libre and then we are going for a farewell dinner at the seafood restuarant - but krista is only allowed pizza.
Tomorrow we go back to la spezia to get a train to piza. We,ll nip out and make sure the tower is still leaning. Then we head back to Florence for 4 nights.
Hope all is well.

Greetings from Kristabella at Port Venere. Cath's covered most of the fun stuff we did but I would like to add that at the La Grazie Madonna Festival, we did indulge in Bombola - a huge spiral doughnut that the Italians went nuts over. Crispy Kreme would make a fortune here.
