Coffs harbour,
A coastal resort town which is also famous for its bananas and fishing. Its located on Australia's holiday coast, where the mountains meet the sea, 570kms north of Sydney and about 350kms south of Brisbane.
Coffs harbour hadnt quite got the famous reputation of Byron Bay and nimbin but we were had a far greater time here that the forementioned.
With a good hostel and some friends as usual, we settled in straight away.
After a long day getting our bearings and strolling around, we bumped into our pal james again, we checked out the beach and the surf was huge! 6-8 ft waves all day long with a long ride time as they broke way out from shore! james and i decided it would be a day of surf the next day, so in the morning we rented a board each from a cool little shop in the fishing harbour and took to the waves while catherine (the sun goddess) topped up her already golden brown tan, accompanied with a new copy of 'OK magazine', apparently it aids the tanning!!! ;-)
james and I took to the waves with full excitement, both managing to get stood up and having a blast, by far the best experience surfing I have ever had, though confidence soon became my faliure as a big wave became too much for me to handle , andy vs wave round 1, the wave was successfull, rolling me and pinning me to the seabed, from here on id respect the waves and doubt my ability.
The next day we decided to do the same, catherine as always happy to get tanned and me happy pretending to be a surf champ, only this time baz and caroline had joined us having arrived late the night before at our hostel, so i had another surf partner and catherine had some more gossip and magazines to sift through while then worshiped the sun. mid afternoon baz and myself can back to dry land and the girls took the boards out for a go at the surf, catherine as always keen to have a go managed to hold on to the board and catch some pretty fast waves, she seemed to enjoy it so much that the next day she hired herself a boogie board out and spent alot of the day in the water, though bikinis and surfing didnt seem to mix and she ended up spending most her time trying to hold her bikini on rather than hold the board ;)
next day, more surfing, this time we had more friends to the group, robert and roz, two friends of baz and caroline from holland, a great couple and a brilliant laugh, the 6 of us had a great day and decided to do a big BBQ on the night time, which was awesome as the weather was hot and we sank a rather large ammount of beer and whine, hence we had to put surfing on hold the next day due to hangovers!
Coffs harbour really was far better than expected, great place, great people to share it with, Id certainly recommend it to anyone.
