oooh my first blog entry. Arrived in Hong Kong safe and sound and found our way to where we are staying. Check out what the lonley travel guide says about our hostel so that you know I'm not lying when I say it's a very scary place!! Its called Chungking mansions and Lonley Planet guide to Hong Kong say its a must see, 'a place like no other in the world, this huge ram shakle high rise dump... you may be put off by the under current of sleaze and the perculiar odour cooking fat incense and sewage. The buildings infamy is feulled by tales both tall and true of crimes and unclaimed bodies.' I felt like crying when we first arrivd and we did consider loosing the money and staying some were else but now as long as I walk in with my eyes shut and never ever look out the window I can just about deal with it!
Hong Kong is amazing though even though we are staying in the worst dump I have ever and hope will ever see we have the best location in Kowloon and I love getting the ferry across to Hong Kong island especailly at night its amazing. We went to Lantau Island yesterday and so far that has been the best experience. Its a beautiful island off Hong Kong and is twie the size. It only took us about 20 mins on the ferry to get there and if we had more time I think we would have liked to spend a few nights there. Once there we caught a bus up the mountains and went to see the Po Lin Monastery. Next to the Monastery is the Tian Tan Buddha. Its really high up and gave a beautiful view of the island all you can see for miles is greenery (a massive contrast to Hong Kong and Kowloon!)
The one thing I can't get over in Hong Kong is the shops its designer shopping every were you look I have never seen so many shops and its all Chloe, Channel, Versace, Hermes, Tiffenys, Van Cleef and Arples the list goes on and on. The bags , watches and jewlery is amazing Andy has to drag me away or I could blow my whole travel fund on one hand bag!
We have been taking it easy today as yesterday was a long day and we were so tired we went to bed at about 9 as niether of us could keep our eyes open. I woke up to Andy pulling out my ear plugs and telling me it was the morning and time to get up. Once we had got up we realised it was half 11 and only been asleep a couple of hours! Jet lag has kicked in big time so we had an easy day today, went round the space museum and then did some window shopping on the harbour in Kowloon.
So far we are having a great time and there is so much to do, I'd love to come back stay at the Peninsula and fill an empty case full of designer goodies though!
