I've arrived in India! And what a wonderful first day! Having avoided the customary craziness of airport arrival thanks to a few tips to book a taxi in advance I arrived at the beautiful home of a lady called Prabeen, a friend of the local guesthouse, who has a spare room for visitors. Indian tea and mango on the balcony for breakfast with parakeets landing on the tree just outside was followed by a welcome 6 hours of sleep (!) and an afternoon just enjoying some indian home life and the local area. Last night I was sat round the dinner table meeting eight of Prabeen's friends and enjoying some home cooking! And this morning we were up before the heat of the day for an early walk around Humayun's Tomb - described as an elegant red-brick forerunner of the Taj Mahal and still very impressive, open only to locals at that time who all go for an early morning stroll (or brisk walk for Prabeen - exhausting enough in the already sweltering heat!) and seemingly to practice their yoga! This is definitely a very beautiful part of Delhi, a little like Thailand meets Rome and a far cry from the bustle I was expecting. But with the possibility of travelling second class unreserved to Agra tomorrow (described as a fight for benched seats early in the morning!) I'm sure I'll get my fill of the true India very soon!
