We were on the road at 7:44am leaving Arizona heading to our next destination, Anthony TX. So far, we have traveled 914 miles. It was Highway 10 all the way. The topography was ever changing. Saguaro cactus was replaced by the soaptree yucca plant, the most characteristic plant of this area. Rock formations went from craggy shapes to smooth hoodoos in one section, then flat lands that gradually increased to approximately 4900ft where the "Great Continental" divide crossed our path. Did you know that there are are actually six different Divides?
We stopped at a rest stop at mile marker 53 in New Mexico for lunch. The covered picnic tables dotted the rest stop protecting you from the potential heat and the severe dust storms that are known to blow through this area. We were fortunate that the weather was cool and the winds calm.
We arrived at our destination for the evening, EL Paso KOA, located in Anthony TX. It is a fairly new park..no pool, no trees, and no grass, but a great doggy park according to Max, the bulldog from across the lane. What it did have was a spectacular sunset. It went well with Walt's Jambalaya. Fiery skies and Fiery food.
Next stops....Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park
