Only 31 miles from where we were staying, was the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument...where it all began. It was discovered by a friar in 1694, but historians dates the site back to 1100 CE (Common Era). This area was named Casa Grande (Grand House), because of the 4 story adobe building. I don't know what is about walking where ancients walked before us, but the presence of spirits living among everything present flitting on soft breezes singing subtle chants beckons you to believe. After such a magical experience, we decided to head back to home base and relax...and do laundry.
Driving back, we saw a movie theatre and thought..why not. "Sully" was playing so we planned to go to the 4:30pm showing and have dinner afterwards. It was our turn to cook, but Bob had a hankering for a steak so we opted to take Walt and Barb out to dinner.
After viewing the film, which we highly recommend, I instructed Siri to direct us to the Casa Grande Steakhouse. The menu on the website had us salivating and was touted as the number one steakhouse in Casa Grande. We followed Siri instructions perfectly....to a not-so-good location...and no restaurant. Re-checking the directions, we thought we would check 2nd Ave instead of 2nd Street...notta. Hmmm. So we stopped at a VERY local Bar and sent Bob in to ask the locals. Walt was standing by to go in after him, if he didn't come out. He did come out with so-so directions. Not there either...By this time, we called the number...it was disconnected. We should have called first...In the meantime, Walt thought he would top off his fuel while we look for an alternate dining spot. Bob asked the attendant through a plexiglass barrier where a nice place to have a steak was ...she recommended Denny's. Back to the internet. This time I asked Siri for an "American Cuisine" restaurant. Bedillons, was the result. It had a picture of a Steak on the website and the establishment was within a couple of blocks from where we were..so far so good. Things happen for a reason...Bedillons was the best second choice. The food was delicious. It is a local haunt run by the same family since the 90's. Don't miss this eatery if you ever pass thru Casa Grande and order their carrot cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...sweet dreams will be yours.
It is time to get on our way. Tomorrow, we head to El Paso TX
