(Actually from Vancouver)
Hey all!
Was thinking of everyone at home and thought I'd better just checkin and see how everyone is going and let you know where we're up to.
So whether I have spoken to you recently, or not for a while, just lettin you know that in my brain, you're still floating round in there somewhere ...!! lol
Anyway,
I guess I'll start from the beginning (so this may take a while!)
So we left you all in early May and landed in Vancouver. After about a week so (we flew over and) met up with Craig's Bro/Sis-in-law/Niece in Waterton National Park (Southern Alberta) and drove back to Vancouver in an RV for about a week. At that point the days were still chilly and there was still snow about, however the scenery was stunning!
After staying in downtown Vancouver for a few weeks, we decided to buy a car and set off on the road (here, employers like to see you in person before hiring).
So we did. An hour later it was stolen (in Surrey - apparently the crime captial of Canada)
So our first thoughts were to head straight home, we didn't get far however as our passports were gone as well.
So we were stranded in Vancouver for the next month, rapidly running out of funds and waiting for job opportunities and the government departments to haul ass (no such thing however).
Anyway, we managed to get job offers from a wee place just over 2 hours from Vancouver (Manning Park). Although it didn't sound ideal (no internet or phone coverage), we didn't have many other options and we figured we only had a couple of weeks left before we'd have to return home.
Meantime, a Surrey resident phoned us to say that out van had been parked outside his place for a week(!) (Cops kept saying it wasn't reported stolen).
So after fluffing around with insurance, we got the car back - our possessions were well gone however.
So we bundled up what little we had accumulated and headed off for Manning Park Resort.
Long story short, I became a waitress and Craig worked in the Country Store and also down at the lake renting canoes out.
We had a fabulously warm summer, met loads of cool people and saw lots of amazing scenery (as you do being in the middle of the wilderness), and a coupley bears!
So we finished summer work in early September and travelled up the Okanagan Valley (Penticton and Kamloops (to see our "Canadian Mum" who helped us out in June)).
Then back down and to Vancouver Island for nearly a week.
We found that Victoria would be the place to be if we were to live here, it's a beautiful city and very laid back. (Very British)
We also went to Tofino and Uculet (over on the west coast), although didn't stay long because of the weather.
